Caribbean Court of Justice celebrates 10 years

PORT-OF-SPAIN, Trinidad, Monday April 13, 2015, CMC – By far its most celebrated case involved a Jamaican national, whose country is still going through the legislative process as to whether or not it should become a full member.

But Sir Dennis Byron, the second Caribbean national to head the Trinidad-based Caribbean Court of Justice (CCJ) is certain that within a year, not only will Jamaica be added to of the full membership of the court, but also Trinidad and Tobago and the other islands in the sub-regional Organisation of Eastern Caribbean States.

Jamaica to host conference on STEM, TVET

THE second International Con-ference on TVET in the Caribbean will be held May 13-15, 2015 at the Hilton Rose Hall Resort & Spa in Montego Bay, Jamaica.

An international panel of presenters will explore the theme "STEM Education in TVET: Imperative to National and Regional Development".

Several agreements reached as historic Summit of the Americas ends

The historic Organization of American States Seventh Summit of the Americas, April 10- 12, 2015 has concluded with Prime Minister of The Bahamas and Chairman of CARICOM the Rt. Hon. Perry Christie having addressed the second plenary session. The summit was historic because of Cuba’s presence for the first time.

It’s On!  Viv Richards Stadium Ready!

Northsound, Antigua, April 13, 2015:     “It’s On – Viv Richards Stadium is ready,” were the words of Sports Minister the Hon. Chet Greene on Sunday, as Antigua and Barbuda gets set to host the first Test Match between West Indies and England.

Earlier in the week, the Minister announced that the new replacement seats for the North Stand at the Sir Vivian Richards are fully installed through the hard work of the stadium staff and members of the Chinese construction team responsible for maintenance at the facility.

Caribbean security summit set for June

PORT OF SPAIN, Trinidad (CMC) -- Trinidad and Tobago's Prime Minister Kamla Persad Bissessar says a Caribbean Security summit will be held in June. A venue has not yet been decided.

A statement issued by the Office of the Prime Minister said that Persad Bissessar was "happy that the United States has agreed to a Caribbean Security Summit which could be held as early as June".

Jennifer Hudson Set to Headline Tobago Jazz Experience

Music superstar Jennifer Hudson is set to headline the Tobago Jazz Experience this year, organizers announced.

Hudson will lead a lineup that includes Jill Scott, Kool and the Gang and Miguel, among others.

The festival will be hosted at locations including Speyside, Signal Hill, Castara and Pigeon Point Heritage Park, with each community hosting multiple events and performances.

PM Warns Of Crime’s Threat To Economy

CRIME and security risks “rank high among the principal threats and obstacles” to growth in the region, Prime Minister Perry Christie told the CARICOM-US Summit in Kingston, Jamaica yesterday, stressing that Caribbean countries value the support of the United States in this area.

#Mr Christie, the current chair of CARICOM, addressed US President Barack Obama who was present for the meeting.

#Mr Christie said he was speaking for the region’s youth, who need a sense of hope, job prospects and good educational opportunities.
