CARICOM and WICB agree “way forward” for West Indies cricket

ST. GEORGE’S, Grenada, Tuesday April 21, 2015, CMC – The West Indies Cricket Board (WICB) and the Caricom committee on cricket governance say they have ended a “productive” meeting where an agreement has been reached on “the way forward” for West Indies cricket.

However both parties have declined to comment on the specifics of the agreement following their meeting which ran for nearly five hours at the upscale Spice Island Beach resort in Grenada’s southern tourist belt late Monday.

Antigua and Barbuda Seeking Japanese aid for Energy Development

ST. JOHN’S, Antigua, April 21 2015 – The Antigua and Barbuda government is seeking assistance from Japan in advancing its programme for achieving a 20 percent improvement in energy efficiency as well as 20 percent renewable energy integration by 2020.

CWC to beam Olympics to 15 million in region

More than 15 million people across the Caribbean will benefit from a strategic broadcast rights deal agreed and signed between Cable and Wireless Communications and CANOC Broadcasting Inc to televise performances of regional athletes at the Rio 2016 Olympics from the opening to closing ceremonies.

The announcement was made by CANOC CEO Larry Romany at a media conference at the Hyatt Regency, Port-of-Spain, yesterday.

A UWI campus could possibly be established in China, says Beckles

A RECIPROCAL agreement has been forged following a recent trip by officials from the University of the West Indies to the People’s Republic of China which could see the establishment of a UWI campus in Suzhou China and the Global Institute for Software Technology establishing a campus in Barbados.

This was revealed by Pro-Vice-Chancellor & Principal of the Cave Hill Campus, Professor Sir Hilary Beckles, who says this is a strategic response to the global circumstance, in light of the protracted recessionary period.

Dominica’s Kalinago People to Celebrate Indigenous Culture


The rich culture and heritage of the Kalinagos will be on display from July 3rd to 5th, 2015. The indigenous people of Dominica are proud of their history and are preparing to portray the culture, color and traditions that make them unique. They will host the first ever Kalinago Indigenous Festival, which will include an art and craft exhibition, an agriculture exposition, a traditional sports day and canoe race and a grand ceremony to honor Kalinago elders.

CCJ itinerant sitting in Belize

The full Bench of the Caribbean Court of Justice is in Belize this week for the first time for itinerant sittings from 20-23 April, 2015.

The sittings will be held in Courtroom 1, Supreme Court of Belize.

This is the fourth itinerant sitting of the Court, with previous sittings being held in Barbados in April 2012, Jamaica and Barbados in March 2013, and Guyana in February 2014.

US President’s visit sends excellent signal to world – Nicholson

Minister of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Trade, Senator the Hon. A.J. Nicholson, says the United States President, Barack Obama’s recent visit to the island sent an “excellent signal” to the global community on the respect being accorded Jamaica at the international level.

He said the Government “is extremely satisfied with the visit,” specifically in relation to the bilateral discussions and the Caribbean Community (CARICOM)-US Summit.
