CARIFESTA through the years | CARICOM

Caribbean Festival of Arts, commonly known as CARIFESTA, is an international multicultural event organized on a periodic basis by the countries of the Caribbean. The main purpose is to gather artists, musicians, authors, and to exhibit the folkloric and artistic manifestations of the Caribbean and Latin American region.

Quick Facts

Inaugural Event

First CARIFESTA held in Guyana in 1972, bringing together artists from over 30 Caribbean and South American countries.

Purpose

Initiated by CARICOM Heads of Government to celebrate Caribbean arts, foster regional unity, and promote Caribbean culture internationally.

Roving Festival

Hosted by a different Caribbean Community (CARICOM) country every few years.

Diverse Showcases

The festival covers a ten-day period featuring various artistic expressions, including music, dance, literature, craft, fashion, and culinary arts.
