Ganja Law comes into effect this Wednesday

KINGSTON, April 14, 2015 -  The recently amended Dangerous Drugs Act commonly referred to as The Ganja Law which makes possession of two or less ounces of ganja a ticketable offence, will come into effect effect this Wednesday.

According to the Justice Ministry the law is expected to among other things reduce the number of  cases before Resident Magistrate's Courts and acknowledge the constitutional rights of  the Rastafari community which uses ganja as a sacrament.

Martinique to Host Caribbean Conference on Climate Change

FORT-DE-FRANCE, Martinique, April 15 2015 – In the context of the World Climate Conference in December in Paris, the French Region Martinique has organised a Caribbean conference on climate change.

Serge Letchimy, the President of the Regional Council, said French President Francois Hollande will attend the one-day summit here next month.

Letchimy said that the May 9 summit will be aimed at mobilising and preparing for the 21st Conference of the Parties (COP21) for the United Nations’ Framework Convention on Climate Change.

Phillips hails CARICOM confab with G-20

Int’l reparations conference ends on high note

NEW YORK, USA (CMC) — An international conference on reparations has ended here with a call for Caribbean governments to proceed urgently with the recommendation that the slave-owning and slave-trading European nations be invited to attend an inter-governmental reparatory justice summit in 2015.

In addition, delegates also agreed to organise two global reparations summits, the first in 2016 to be held in the Caribbean and another in 2017 in Europe.

Health High On The Summit Of The Americas Agenda For St. Kitts-nevis

CARICOM SG updates Montserrat’s new Cabinet on regional developments

CARICOM Secretary-General Ambassador Irwin LaRocque met on Monday with the Premier of Montserrat Hon. Donaldson Romeo and his Cabinet of Ministers and briefed them on latest developments in the regional integration movement. Premier Romeo’s government is among the newest in the Caribbean Community (CARICOM). His Peoples Democratic Movement was elected to office in Montserrat’s 11 September 2014 elections.

The State-owned ZJB Radio in Montserrat reported on the Secretary-General’s visit.

 

Guyana rolls out EU-funded Agriculture Policy Programme-youth, women, small farmers among beneficiaries

As part of component three of the Agriculture Policy Programme (AAP), which aims to develop enterprises, through improved market linkages, the Ministry of Agriculture, in partnership with The Inter-American Institute for Cooperation on Agriculture (IICA), hosted a cassava and small ruminant validation seminar, today.

This event which was held at the Regency hotel, Hadfield Street, targeted farmers from across the country, sought to build capacity among the participants and engaging them on the validation of the analysis of constraints and opportunities in Guyana.

OAS Launches Small Business Development Center Network in Barbados

The Organization of American States (OAS) and the Government of Barbados have announced the launch of the Small Business Development Center Network (SBDC) on the Caribbean island as part of the CARICOM Small Business Development Centers project, which is being conducted in five countries of the Caribbean Community.
