Germany and CARICOM take the Cooperation in Energy to another Level

The Caribbean Renewable Energy Development Programme (CREDP) is handing over the baton to the Renewable and Energy Efficiency Technical Assistance project in March 2016. The CREDP started in February 2003 and ends on March 31, 2016. CREDP was a Regional Cooperation Programme between the Government of Germany and CARICOM Member States and the Dominican Republic.

 

Barbados PM writes Britain on reparation on behalf of CARICOM

The 15-member Caribbean Community (CARICOM) countries have sent a formal letter of complaint to Britain seeking reparation for slavery.

The letter, which was written by Barbados Prime Minister Freundel Stuart, and sent to the British Foreign Office, calls on London to formally acknowledge the region’s demands for payment for the transatlantic slave trade.

CARICOM, Japan strengthen decades-old ties

The long-standing friendship that has existed between the Caribbean Community (CARICOM) and Japan was strengthened on Thursday 25 February, with the accreditation of new Ambassador of Japan to CARICOM, His Excellency Mitsuhiko Okada.

Sir Hilary says it’s time to address reparatory justice head on

MASSACHUSETTS, United States, Friday February 25, 2016 – As he continues to make a push for reparations for Caribbean nations, Chairman of the CARICOM Reparations Commission Sir Hilary Beckles is insisting that as uncomfortable as it may be for some, it’s time to face the past head on.

He was delivering a keynote address at the Harvard Law School on reparatory justice earlier this week when he insisted that the calls for reparations for the slave trade were not about retribution and anger, but about atonement and “building bridges across lines of moral justice”.

Caribbean economies in ‘recovery mode’ – CDB

BRIDGETOWN, Barbados, CMC – The economies of Caribbean countries are in a “recovery mode” even though it is still operating in a “somewhat topsy-turvy external environment,” the president of the Barbados-based Caribbean Development Bank (CDB), Dr. William Warren Smith said Wednesday.

Delivering the annual report on the current state of Caribbean economies, Smith said though he remains “guardedly optimistic about 2016.
