CARPHA provides Zika Virus update in Caribbean

(CARPHA – Port of Spain, Trinidad and Tobago. March 23, 2016. The Caribbean region continues to wrestle with Zika. To date, there has been an increase in locally-confirmed cases of Zika in countries and territories around the Region.

Female entrepreneurs to receive training in Digital Marketing

  At least twenty female entrepreneurs will receive training in Digital Marketing under the Saint Lucian Women & Girls in ICT Campaign, which is a joint initiative of the Saint Lucia Coalition of Services & Industry (SLCSI) in collaboration with the Caribbean Regional Communications Infrastructure Program (CARCIP).

Caribbean to tackle escalating cybercrime with regional approach

CASTRIES, St Lucia -- Commonwealth ministers, policymakers and cybersecurity experts are currently gathering in St Lucia for a three-day meeting (16-18 March) to tackle rising cybercrime in the Caribbean. The meeting will provide a platform for participants to address challenges and develop a coordinated regional action plan to prevent cybercrime and improve cybersecurity. This will involve setting up a virtual platform to share expertise and best practice.

CDB Supports Drive For Better Data To Boost Caribbean Development

ST. MICHAEL (CDB) -- In 2012, the Caribbean Development Bank (CDB) approved financing for a collaborative project with the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) and the Caribbean Community (CARICOM) Secretariat.

The project involved enhancing the capacity of countries in the Region and the OECS Commission to compile and disseminate data on human development.

Brazil joins the Caribbean Development Bank

The Federative Republic of Brazil is the newest member country of the Caribbean Development Bank (CDB), signalling that country’s commitment to sustainable development of the Region. This became effective on December 31, 2015, following a process that began with Brazil’s application to membership in 2007 and its acceptance by the CDB Board of Governors in 2008.

Brazil is CDB’s 28th member, and the fourth non-borrowing regional member, joining Colombia, Mexico and Venezuela in that category.

SKN brings Consumer Affairs Act in line with CARICOM Bill

The St. Kitts and Nevis Consumer Affairs Act 2003 is being repealed to address consumers’ concerns about labels written in foreign languages and to institute other protection issues. This was revealed by Vincent Fough, Consumer Affairs Officer, of St. Kitts and Nevis during the television programme `Working for you’.

Caribbean countries urged to re-examine relationship with Europe at CARIFORUM Meeting

CARIFORUM Secretary General, Ambassador Irwin LaRoque declared the meeting open and described the gathering as the first relevant meeting to take stock of the EU and CARIFORUM cooperation agreement which comes to an end in 2020.

The 23rd meeting of the Council of Ministers of the Caribbean Forum of African, Caribbean and Pacific States (CARIFORUM) got underway in Georgetown, Guyana on Thursday morning with calls for the re – examination of the region’s relationship with the European Union and the strengthening of coordination among members states.

CARIFORUM meeting to address serious concerns of Guyana, the region- Foreign Affairs Minister

Minister of Foreign Affairs Carl Greenidge indicated that the 23rd Council of Ministers of CARIFORUM meeting will discuss a number of items that are of special interest to Guyana. The meeting opens on Thursday, March 17 at the Marriott Hotel, Georgetown.
While Guyana is hosting the meeting, it would be Chaired by the Republic of Haiti. Foreign Ministers from the Caribbean Forum of African, Caribbean and Pacific States (CARIFORUM) will be in attendance.
