Prime Minister Says He Intends To Lead A Government Of Partnership

Newly installed Prime Minister, the Most Hon. Andrew Holness,  says  he intends to lead a Government  of  partnership, as the “solutions to  our problems do not rest with the Government alone.”

“To achieve the vision of shared prosperity through inclusive growth and meaningful job creation, now more than ever, Government must lead, activate, empower and build real partnerships,” the Prime Minister emphasised.

The University of the West Indies to host Zika Symposium

The University of the West Indies will host a two-day symposium bringing together an interdisciplinary group of specialists to explore issues relevant to the control of the Zika virus in the Caribbean.

The symposium takes place this Friday and Saturday – March 4 and 5 – at the Hilton Hotel in Bridgetown, Barbados with live broadcasts on Caribbean cable stations Flow Channel 99 and Lime Channel 101. A live stream of day one’s proceedings will also be available via http://www.uwi.edu/zika from 9:30 am to 1:00 pm AST.

Historic gender equality legislation passed in Bahamas Parliament

NASSAU, Bahamas, Mar. 4, CMC – History was made on Wednesday when Parliament passed four amendments to the constitution, removing the remaining vestiges of discrimination from the law books.

Thirty-seven of the 38 legislators voted in favour of the bill.
The other Parliamentarian – Hubert Chipman was absent due to illness.

Last weekend, Attorney General Allyson Maynard Gibson Q.C. said four issues would be voted upon in Parliament and later by the people in a referendum.

Deputy PM Richards Weighs In On CARICOM Youth Development Agenda

Next week, representatives from 14 Caribbean countries will come together in Belize City to take stock of key lessons learned from the hundred reform actions implemented through the Caribbean Growth Forum, and announce a Communique to move forward on their pro-growth agenda.
