Global Fund convenes forum to help countries sustain projects

-dubbed ‘enlightening and rewarding’ by Ministry of Public Health, Dr. Karen Cummings
“It is always a challenge for countries to transition smoothly from internationally funded projects and to sustain them effectively to the benefit of the people…”  This is according to Minister within the Ministry of Public Health, Dr. Karen Cummings.
She recently attended a Global Fund forum for principal administrators within the health sector throughout Latin America and the Caribbean. The forum was held in Panama last month.

PM Browne heads delegation to US/CARICOM correspondent banking talks

Preventing the loss of Correspondent Banking Relations (CBR) remains a top agenda item for the government of Antigua and Barbuda and the rest of the Region as a delegation peruses the matter during consultations between Caribbean and US authorities in Jamaica.

The delegation, led by Prime Minister and Minister of Finance, Gaston Browne, is currently at the consultation in Jamaica, dubbed Caribbean Public Private Dialogue on CBR.

West Indies T20 achievement is testament to Region’s rich talent – PM Browne

Chairman of the Prime Ministerial Sub-Committee on Cricket, Antigua and Barbuda’s Prime Minister Hon. Gaston Browne has congratulated the West Indies Women and  Men’s cricket teams on their victories in the World T20 competitions, which ended in India on Sunday.

 

Prime Minister Browne said the achievement of winning all the ICC titles at stake in 2016, including the Under 19 which was won last month, is a testament to the talent which the Region possesses and evidence it can hold its own with the rest of the world.

 

Jamaica lab approved as WHO Zika testing facility

KINGSTON, Jamaica, Monday April 4, 2016 – Jamaica is equipped to conduct Zika virus testing on behalf of other countries, if so assigned by the World Health Organization (WHO).

Acting Director of the National Virology Reference Laboratory at the University Hospital of the West Indies (UHWI), Professor Monica Smikle, has disclosed that the facility is a valid WHO testing agency.

Members of staff have also benefited from training from the Pan American Health Organization (PAHO).

CARICOM Cricket governance sub-committee Chairman congratulates victorious Windies teams

Prime Minister of Grenada and Chairman of the CARICOM Subcommittee on Cricket Governance, Dr. the Right Honourable Keith Mitchell, has congratulated the West Indies Men’s and Women’s teams on their heartwarming victories in the World T20 competitions earlier today.

The Men’s team defeated England in the Finals by four wickets, with two balls remaining; scoring four consecutive sixes in the first four balls of the final over, to secure the seemingly improbable win. Earlier the Women’s team crushed defending champions Australia to secure their first ever World  T20 title.

Caribbean countries have shown great leadership in “mobilising the world” to act on the threat posed by climate change, the Secretary-General Designate of the Commonwealth of Nations, the Right Honourable Patricia Scotland QC, has said.

Caribbean Nations Sign off on Cyber Crime Action Plan

Priority areas in the action plan include training, legislation, technical capacity and law enforcement. Caribbean countries have sign off on a plan of action to strengthen regional co-operation and help governments address cyber security vulnerabilities. It follows a five-day meeting in Saint Lucia that brought together legislators, cyber security experts and international law enforcement bodies such as Interpol.
