CARICOM-UK Forum frank and cordial

Foreign Ministers of the Caribbean Community (CARICOM) and the United Kingdom Foreign Secretary ended two sessions of “frank and cordial” talks in Freeport, The Bahamas at the Ninth Caribbean UK Forum.

Co-Chairs Honourable Fred Mitchell, Foreign Minister of The Bahamas and the Rt Honourable Phillip Hammond, Foreign Secretary of the UK both expressed their satisfaction at the discussions during a press conference on Saturday at the end of the biennial Forum.

Region continues climate change planning

The Caribbean Community continues to plan the way forward following the recent signing of the Paris Climate Change Agreement.

Member agencies of the Regional Coordinating Committee on Climate Change (RCCC) met in St. Lucia 27-28 April, to review the progress made in the implementation of the region’s climate change plan and discuss the way forward.

St. Kitts and Nevis CYAs celebrate Girls in ICT Day 2016

Basseterre, St. Kitts, (SKNIS): St. Kitts and Nevis’ CARICOM Youth Ambassadors (CYA) joined other Member States in the Region to celebrate International Girls in Information and Communications Technology (ICT) Day 2016, on Thursday 28 April.

 

The day, which is held on the fourth Thursday in April each year, was observed under the theme ‘Tech girls, for a tech world. Girls and women in ICT; beneficial for every country!’

 

Technology Minister Wants More Females in ICT

Energy, Science and Technology Minister, Dr. the Hon. Andrew Wheatley, is underscoring the need for greater female involvement in the field of information and communication technology (ICT).

Speaking at the Girls in ICT Day seminar and exhibition, held at the Knutsford Court Hotel in Kingston, on April 28, Dr. Wheatley acknowledged the role of local women in the industry, but noted that there is room for more.

Jamaica to Take Full Advantage of CARICOM Benefits

The Government will be appointing a Caribbean Community (CARICOM) Review Commission, aimed at positioning the country to take full advantage of benefits under the organisation.

This was announced by Prime Minister, the Most Hon. Andrew Holness, today (April 27), at the unveiling ceremony for new equipment installed at International Biscuits Limited (IBL), in St. Andrew.

“I think the time has come for Jamaica to fully assess the benefits, opportunities and challenges of CARICOM and to assert ourselves in such a way that Jamaica gets the benefit of CARICOM,” he said.
