Historic Exhibition of Caribbean Animation at IDB Washington DC

In celebration of the 15th Anniversary of Animae Caribe Festival, Founder and Creative Director Camille Selvon Abrahams was asked by the Inter-American Development Bank to collaborate on an exhibition of Caribbean animations submitted to the festival over the last fifteen years. The twenty hand selected shorts will be exhibited at the IDB Head Office Conference Centre in Washington DC from 14th of April till July of this year.

Four CARICOM countries to participate in project to reduce salt consumption

KINGSTOWN, St Vincent (CMC) – Four Caribbean Community (CARICOM) countries have been chosen to conduct social marketing training and technical assistance to reduce daily salt intake.

The project in Antigua and Barbuda, Barbados, St Vincent and the Grenadines (SVG) and Jamaica, is being led by the Pan-American Health Organisation (PAHO) Salt Smart Consortium, acting as the secretariat, supported by Healthy Caribbean Coalition (HCC).

Guyana to host 23rd CARIFORUM Council of Ministers Meeting

Foreign Affairs Ministers of CARIFORUM are to meet in Guyana on March 17. This is for the Twenty-Third Meeting of the Council of Ministers of the Caribbean Forum of African, Caribbean and Pacific States (CARIFORUM). Discussions will focus on the implementation and programming of the 10th and 11th European Development Fund (EDF).

St. Lucia to host regional telecommunications conference

CASTRIES, St. Lucia Mar 13, CMC – St. Lucia will this week host a telecommunications conference that will attract delegates from across the globe.

During International Communications Technology Week from March 14-18 – heads of Regional and International Organizations, Ministers, Commissioners of Police, Attorneys General, Directors of Public Prosecution, ICT Personnel will among other things, agree on a regional approach to Cyber Security.

Ministry of Trade Facilitates Public Awareness about the Caricom Skills Certificate

Basseterre, St. Kitts, March 11, 2016 (SKNIS): The Ministry of International Trade in collaboration with the CARICOM Single Market and Economy (CSME) Unit, hosted the first in a series of consultation and information sharing sessions with a public sensitization forum on the CARICOM Skills Certificate at the University of the West Indies Open Campus on Thursday, March 10.

 

Mrs. Jasemin Weekes, Director of Trade Research in the Ministry of International Trade, noted that the forum was designed to inform, advise, guide, and receive feedback from the audience.

Premier Amory calls for further education on CSME

The Honourable Vance Amory, Premier of Nevis and Minister of Labour, is of the view that there is further need for the people of St. Kitts and Nevis to be educated on the benefits of the Caribbean Single Market and Economy (CSME).

 

Caribbean observes international women’s day

BRIDGETOWN, Barbados, Mar 8, CMC – Caribbean countries Tuesday joined the international community in observing International Women’s Day with various messages urging support for women, even as the Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean (ECLAC) indicating that the gender wage gap remaining “an obstacle to women’s economic autonomy and to overcoming poverty and inequality in the region”.

Jamaica now second Caribbean country certified to test for all diseases

Jamaica is now the second country in the English-speaking Caribbean to have an internationally accredited laboratory with the full capabilities to test for any type of disease that may pose a threat to public health.

On Monday, the newly upgraded Virology Laboratory at the University of the West Indies (UWI) was unveiled.

Customs Officers get training - under CARIFORUM–EU agreement

Several local customs officers, as well as stakeholders in the public and private sector benefitted from a customs and trade facilitation capacity workshop, conducted today at the Guyana Revenue Authority (GRA.)

The workshop, held in the agency’s Training Room, at Camp Street, forms part of a slew of capacity building initiatives being implemented across the region, under the Caribbean Forum CARIFORUM–EU (European Union) Economic Partnership Agreement (EPA).
