Caribbean journalists gain insight into ways to report climate forecasting

Thirteen journalists from across the region gathered for a one-day workshop in Barbados, as part of an international initiative sponsored by the World Meteorological Organisation (WMO), to show how climate forecasting services are being used to boost business and economic opportunities in Small Island Developing States (SIDS).

The workshop attempted to help the media personnel better interpret the jargon behind climatology and to relay that information in a way that will benefit the people who operate in climate-sensitive sectors, like farming and agriculture.

World Bank provides $150 million to combat Zika in Latin America and Caribbean

WASHINGTON, United States, Friday February 19, 2016 – The World Bank Group has made US$150 million immediately available to help countries in Latin America and the Caribbean fight the Zika virus.

And it said in its announcement yesterday that it stands ready to provide additional financing if it’s needed.

According to the World Bank, the initial amount being provided is based on current country demands for financing and follows extensive engagement with governments across the region, including sending teams of technical experts to affected countries.

Guyana to clear arrears to CARICOM Competition Commission

Guyana will be spending $60M from the 2016 National Budget to clear a part of arrears owing and accrued over the past five years to the CARICOM Competition Commission. This was revealed by Minister of Foreign Affairs Carl Greenidge during a review of the estimates for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs by the Committee of Supply, the Government Information Agency (GINA) of Guyana said.
