CTU says CARICOM Single ICT Space “is a complex undertaking”

BRIDGETOWN, Barbados, Feb 22, CMC – The Secretary General of the Trinidad-based Caribbean Telecommunications Union (CTU), Bernadette Lewis, says the establishment of the Caribbean Community (CARICOM) Single ICT Space is a complex undertaking, which presents many challenges.

Further UG, UWI collaboration – students to mix programmes between two institutions

University of Guyana (UG) students will benefit from a mixed programme through collaboration with the University of the West Indies (UWI).

Vice Chancellor of UWI, Professor Sir Hilary Beckles said UWI is already collaborating with UG on programmes in agriculture, fisheries, forestry, medicine and law among others, but there needs to be full mobility where students can mix their programmes at both universities.

CARICOM Secretariat salutes Risk Insurance Facility for meeting the region’s needs

The Caribbean Community (CARICOM) Secretariat has congratulated the CCRIF SPC on its Tenth (10th) Anniversary.

A segregated portfolio company (SPC), CCRIF SPC was formerly the Caribbean Catastrophe Risk Insurance Facility (CCRIF).

The company has been lauded as the world’s first regional parametric risk insurance pool, and another CARICOM best practice that can be shared with the world.

Jamaica Signs and Ratifies Amendment to CARICOM Development Fund (CDF) Agreement

CDF, Bridgetown, Barbados, 21 Feb. 2017:   Senator The Hon. Kamina Johnson Smith, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Trade of Jamaica, signed and ratified on behalf of Jamaica the Amendment to Annex III of the Agreement Relating to the Operation of the CARICOM Development Fund (CDF) on the occasion of the Twenty-Eighth Inter-Sessional Meeting of the Conference of Heads of Government of the Caribbean Community in Georgetown Guyana (February 16-17, 2017).

Regional Heads call for urgent meeting of COTED to address air transport issues

Heads of Government of the Caribbean Community (CARICOM) have called for an urgent meeting of the Council for Trade and Development (COTED), to address air transport issues in particular, those that affect the tourism sector.

Making this announcement on Friday was CARICOM’s Chairman, President David Granger at a press conference to mark the conclusion of the 28th Inter-sessional Meeting of the Conference of Heads of Government of CARICOM.
The two-day confabulation was held at the Marriott and the Pegasus Hotels in Kingston, Georgetown, Guyana.

CARICOM heads approve draft ICT space roadmap

A roadmap towards creating a single ICT Space for the Caribbean Community (CARICOM) is being tabled at the 28th Inter-sessional CARICOM summit for the approval of the Conference of Heads of Government.

The Conference is meeting in Georgetown, Guyana to deliberate on a number of critical issues including regional security, economic development and international relations.
