CSME training for Guyana’s secondary school teachers

Secondary school teachers in Guyana are set to be more knowledgeable about the CARICOM Single Market and Economy (CSME). This is due to the Caribbean Community (CARICOM) Secretariat’s hosting of a two-day CSME training workshop from Tuesday, January 17  at the Church View International Hotel in Berbice. Approximately thirty (30) teachers will be attending the workshop which is funded under the European Union’s 10th European Development Fund CSME and Economic Integration Programme.

Energy stakeholders meet in The Bahamas for CSEF V

Key energy stakeholders will gather in Nassau, The Bahamas, later this month to take account of the Region’s transition to greater sustainable production and use.

Representatives of public and private sector entities, senior officials of national, regional and international institutions and industry experts will join Energy Ministers of Caribbean Community (CARICOM) Member States at the fifth Caribbean Sustainable Energy Forum (CSEF). More than 100 participants are expected at CSEF V which will be held 23-25 January, 2017.

CARICOM, Serbia formalise diplomatic relations

The Caribbean Community (CARICOM) and the Republic of Serbia on Wednesday formalised diplomatic relations with the first Ambassador accredited to CARICOM from the south eastern European country.

CARICOM Secretary-General, Ambassador Irwin LaRocque, accepted the credentials of His Excellency Djerdj Matković at a simple ceremony at the Headquarters of the CARICOM Secretariat in Georgetown, Guyana, on 11 January 2017, welcoming him to the “Community’s network of friends.”

Caribbean Regional Fisheries Mechanism successfully implements sanitary controls project

BELIZE CITY, Belize -- The Caribbean Regional Fisheries Mechanism (CRFM), in partnership with the Inter-American Institute for Cooperation on Agriculture (IICA) has successfully completed the project “Capacity Building of regulatory and industry stakeholders in Aquaculture and Fisheries Health and Food Safety to meet the SPS requirements of international trade”. 

Caribbean says farewell to Sir Dwight Venner

CASTRIES, St. Lucia, (CMC) – The Caribbean bade farewell to the longest serving governor of the Eastern Caribbean Central Bank (ECCB), Sir Dwight Venner on Wednesday with St. Vincent and the Grenadines Prime Minister Dr. Ralph Gonsalves describing him as “among our best”.

Sir Dwight died here on December 22 after efforts to fly him out to the French island of Martinique for medical treatment failed. He was 70.

Jovenel Moise It Is! Court Confirms Victory of Businessman In Haiti Presidential Election

PORT-AU-PRINCE, Haiti, Wednesday January 4, 2017 – It’s official! In just over a month, businessman Jovenel Moise is set to be installed as the new President of Haiti, ending weeks of uncertainty following the November 20, 2016 election.

An election tribunal stamped its approval on Moise’s election yesterday, as it ruled out allegations of massive fraud at the polls.

“There was no massive fraud in the election. There were irregularities, which did not affect the electoral process,” the tribunal reported.

Antigua & Barbuda In Strong Position To Accelerate Renewable Energy Deployment

Guyana signs open skies agreements

NASSAU, Bahamas -- During the ninth annual International Civil Aviation (ICAN) 2016 conference, which was held in Nassau, Bahamas, from December 5-9, 2016, Guyana signed open skies agreements with the Dominican Republic, India and South Korea.

The agreement with India will allow an unlimited number of flights to six airports in India: New Delhi, Mumbai, Hyderabad, Kolkata, Bengaluru and Chennai. The new arrangement will encourage connectivity and passenger travel between India and Guyana.
