CPDC launches regional campaign against poverty and inequality

BRIDGETOWN, Barbados, Jan 14, CMC – The Barbados-based Caribbean Policy Development Center (CPDC) says it will launch its Action/2015 Caribbean campaign on Thursday as part of the larger global Action/2015 campaign to end poverty, inequality and bring attention to significant climate change issues.

More doors opened to advanced education

Basseterre, St. Kitts, January 14, 2015 (SKNIS): More doors of opportunities for persons wishing to further their education have been opened with the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) between the Government and SENECA College of Applied Arts and Technology in Canada.

John Allen, Honorary Consul of St. Kitts and Nevis in Toronto stated that this comes at an “opportune time considering that the Federations is at a stage in its economic development that requires taking the educational system and training development to another level.”

Bahamas to raise Boko Haram assaults at CARICOM summit

NASSAU, Bahamas (CMC) – The Bahamas says it intends to place on the agenda of the next Caribbean Community (CARICOM) heads of government meeting, the attacks by the Boko Haram militant Islamist group on Nigeria.

Bahamas Prime Minister Perry Christie, who is also chairman of the 15-member regional grouping, said that his country has already expressed “its profound sorrow and regret to the government of Nigeria over the loss of life in the wake of the recent attack by a terrorist group called Boko Haram”.

‘Extreme measures’ needed to see Ebola shot development through

(Reuters) - Developing and bringing to market effective Ebola vaccines requires extreme measures and unprecedented international cooperation, global health experts said on Monday.

In an interim report on a roadmap for vaccines against the current and any future outbreaks of the deadly virus, infectious disease specialists Jeremy Farrar and Mike Osterholm said the scope of effort was "too complex for any single government, organization or company". They called for sustained public-private sector partnership and commitment.

Jamaica has highest proportion of women managers globally – study

GENEVA, Switzerland, Tuesday January 13, 2015, CMC – A new study by the International Labour Organization (ILO) has found that Jamaica has the highest proportion of women managers, globally, ahead of countries like the United States and the United Kingdom

The study also found that while women are still under-represented in top management, the number of women in senior and middle management positions has increased over the last 20 years.
