CARICOM to continue lobby for end to Cuba trade embargo – Nicholson

KINGSTON, January 23, 2015- Foreign Affairs and Foreign Trade Minister, Senator A.J. Nicholson, says regional leaders will continue to push for an end to the trade embargo against Cuba even as they welcome the move by the United States (US) to restore diplomatic ties with the Spanish-speaking Caribbean island.

“A main hurdle to be cleared is the lifting of the long-standing economic trade and financial embargo against Cuba. Regional leaders will continue to make the call for the end to the embargo until it is lifted,” he vowed.

China, Grenada “Renew Commitment”

China and Grenada have “renewed their commitment” toward strengthening their bilateral relationship, the government of Grenada announced this week.

The two sides “renewed” their commitment at a recent ceremony to mark the 10th anniversary of the resumption of diplomatic relations between Grenada and China.

Grenada established diplomatic ties with China in 2005 after severing its ties with Taiwan.

Chinese Ambassador to Grenada Ou Boqian said Grenada should “embrace” the opportunities China has to offer.

CARICOM Leaders and US in Energy Summit in Washington
