Key Stakeholders Being Trained in Matters of CSME

CARICOM, in partnership with the Ministry of Trade, is working to create more awareness among even more stakeholders as it relates to the CARICOM Single Market and Economy.

This drive to create awareness about CSME is one component of the CARICOM Trade and Competitiveness Project.

Several workshops have been held across the region in this regard and specific stakeholder groups have been targeted.

Beginning January 26th, a training and sensitization workshop convened under this component of the project, Component 300.

Coordination key to pushing sustainable energy agenda – CARICOM SG

CARICOM Secretary-General Ambassador Irwin LaRocque said co-ordination was the key to moving the sustainable energy agenda forward in the Region.

Speaking during a panel discussion at the Caribbean Energy Security Summit in Washington DC, USA, on Monday afternoon, Secretary-General LaRocque pointed to the Caribbean Centre for Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency (CCREEE) as an example of the Community acting to improve co-ordination in the sector.

Ebola: UN health agency urges better global preparedness against future outbreaks

25 January 2015 – The Ebola outbreak is “clearly” in retreat throughout the affected countries of West Africa but the continuing emergency response shows the need for urgent changes so that “never again should the world be caught by surprise,” the head of the World Health Organization (WHO) told a special meeting on Ebola today.

KINGSTON,  January 25, 2015 -As banana exports increase, the Ministry of Agriculture is moving to ensure that there is steady supply of high quality fruit for the overseas market by utilizing  the agro parks as part of the process.

Federation represented at Washington DC Summit on Energy

BASSETERRE/WASHINGTON (JANUARY 27TH 2015 (CUOPM) – St. Kitts and Nevis is being represented by a three-person delegation at the invitation from United States Vice President the Hon. Joe Biden to participate in a regional summit on Energy Security being held in Washington.

The delegation members are Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Energy, Mr. Lenny Lake; St. Kitts and Nevis’ Ambassador to the United States Her Excellency, Mrs. Jacinth Henry-Martin and the Deputy Director at the World Bank Mrs. Janet Harris.

Energy Summit – Panels discuss key issues

Caribbean Community (CARICOM) leaders  joined United States Vice President Joseph Biden in Washington for Monday’s Caribbean Energy Summit.

The Summit format included three panel discussions with CARICOM Secretary-General Ambassador Irwin LaRocque participating in the panel on “Public Sector Catalysing International Finance”.

Dominica looks to France for help with banana industry

As the Eastern Caribbean continues its battle against the Black Sigatoka disease harming its banana crops, Dominica is looking abroad for help.

The country announced this week that it would soon be importing Black Sigatoka-resistant banana plants from the French Caribbean to help farmers in the ongoing fight against the disease.

Golding tables ganja amendments in Senate

Minister of Justice, Senator Mark Golding, tabled the landmark Dangerous Drugs (Amendment) Bill which contains proposed changes to laws affecting the use of ganja, in the Senate on Friday.

Golding had announced on Wednesday at a post Cabinet press briefing at Jamaica House that the Bill would be tabled Friday, following Monday's approval of the proposed amendments by Cabinet. The amendments are expected to be supported by the Opposition.
