Close to fifty secondary CXC-level teachers have been trained to integrate information on the CARICOM Single Market and Economy (CSME) into their school’s curriculum. The two-day training, which opened on Thursday February 5, is part of the CARICOM Trade and Competitiveness Project (CTCP) Component 300 that seeks to widen the scope of participation by stakeholders and beneficiaries in the process of decision-making, implementation and operation of the CSME Information Flows.
RUSSEAU – The government of Dominica announced Tuesday that the Caribbean Court of Justice, or CCJ, will become the country’s court of final appeal starting this month.
“Certainly, as we indicated last year, this is an historic opportunity for Dominica. It would mean allowing more ordinary citizens to have greater access to the judiciary system,” Prime Minister Roosevelt Skerrit said in a statement.
KINGSTON, February 7, 2015 - While Jamaica’s Trade deficit with the United States showed need for improvement, Jamaica's trade balance with the rest of the region improved over the first ten months of last year as imports fell and exports increased.
The latest trade data show that at the end of October exports to CARICOM were valued at US$72 million. That was up from US 65 million for the corresponding period of the prior year.
At the same time, imports declined to US$665 million, from US$718 million in 2013.
The financial burden being faced by sporting associations for the use of the stadium and sporting venues managed by Independence Parks Limited (IPL), will shortly be eased as Government is to provide financial assistance to help offset the cost of using these facilities.
Minister with responsibility for Sport, Natalie Neita Headley, said the Ministry of Finance and Planning has approved a request to provide financial assistance towards rental of the venues and $70 million has been budgeted.
February 09, 2015: Trinidad and Tobago successfully secured the endorsement of the Community of Latin American and Caribbean States (CELAC) for its candidature to host the Secretariat of the Arms Trade Treaty (ATT). This has ensured that Trinidad and Tobago’s bid was recognised and approved by the majority of States in the Western Hemisphere. The endorsement took place at the III Summit of Heads of State and Government of CELAC held during the period 28th to 29th January, 2015 in Costa Rica
The European Union has provided Montserrat with EC$14.2 million (€4.275M) as part of the 10th European Development Fund General Budget Support (GBS) Programme, which has been paid directly to the state treasury. (Editor’s note: Treasury, Government of Montserrat)
This is the third tranche of an overall total of EC$51 million (€15.6M) which was located to the territory by the EU.

Jamaica is getting a boost to its efforts to improve its resilience to climate change.
The country has been provided $17 million from the Inter-American Development Bank under the bank’s Adaptation Programme and Financing Mechanism for the Pilot Programme for Climate Resilience.

OAS Secretary General His Excellency Jose Miguel Insulza and St Kitts and Nevis’ Permanent Representative to the OAS, Her Excellency Jacinth Lorna Henry-Martin, signed an electoral observation mission agreement on Friday at the OAS Headquarters.
The chief of mission will be Ambassador Frank Almaguer.
