UN wants end to Racism, Intolerance as World Commemorates Anti-discrimination Day

Almost 50 years after the proclamation of the International Day for the Elimination of Racial Discrimination, the UN has been told that too many individuals, communities and societies continue to suffer from the injustices and stigma brought by racism.

The major historical tragedies related to racial or ethnic discrimination that had affected global history were not so remote that people could not recall them, said Verene Shepherd, a member of the Working Group of Experts on People of African Descent of the Human Rights Council and the meeting’s keynote speaker.  

New CCJ Judge sworn in

The Honourable Mme. Justice Maureen Rajnauth-Lee was sworn in by His Excellency Anthony Thomas Aquinas Carmona as Judge of the Caribbean Court of Justice (CCJ) on Friday at a ceremony at the Office of the President of the Republic of Trinidad and Tobago. Caribbean Export Explores Technical Management Unit To Support Regional Trade

GEORGE TOWN, Cayman Islands -- Following the successful hosting of a business forum in the Cayman Islands, for private sector firms, the Caribbean Export Development Agency (Caribbean Export) explored the establishment of a technical management unit (TMU) to assist exporters from the Caribbean Forum of African Caribbean and Pacific States (CARIFORUM) states that are interested in entering the French Caribbean market as well as to assist French Caribbean exporters with market information on the CARIFORUM region.

In a major advance in the fight against drug-resistant tuberculosis, the Haitian Study Group on Opportunistic Infections and Kaposi's Sarcoma, or GHESKIO, has opened a state-of-the-art hospital in Port-au-Prince, Haiti, to treat patients suffering from the disease.

Tech entrepreneurs head for training in Jordan

Three local start-up technology companies have been selected to benefit from a US$90,000 ($10.3 million)-investment and a trip to Jordan-based accelerator company Oasis500.

Last year, Oasis500 inked a deal with the Government and the World Bank to invest up to US$30,000 in the tech entrepreneurs under the Youth Employment in Digital and Creative Industries (YEDCI) project.
