OAS pleased With preparations for Model Session in St. Kitts-Nevis


Basseterre, St. Kitts, March 23, 2015 (SKNIS): Final checks are being made by officials in St. Kitts and Nevis to ensure that all is set for Tuesday’s (March 24) start of the 33rd Model OAS General Assembly (MOAS) for Universities of the Hemisphere.
 
Specialist with the MOAS Programme, Nelly Robinson, said she was pleased with the attention to detail that has been shown in the planning for the March 24 to 26 conference.
 

TB is still a Health Threat in the Caribbean – CARPHA

Port-of-Spain, Trinidad and Tobago, March 23, 2015: The Caribbean Public Health Agency (CARPHA) joins the Region in observing World Tuberculosis (TB) day. The Day is used to build public awareness that TB remains a major global health problem, responsible for illness among 9 million new people each year, and deaths of 1.5 million. Worldwide, TB ranks as the second leading cause of death from an infectious disease, after the human immunodeficiency virus (HIV). This year’s theme Find, Treat, Cure TB focuses on TB diagnosis and case detection of those still not reached.

2015 poses ‘extraordinary opportunity’ for Haiti democracy – OAS SG

The Secretary-General of the Organisation of American States (OAS), José Miguel Insulza, on Tuesday concluded his visit to Haiti, during which he met with the country’s President, Michel Martelly, and Prime Minister, Evans Paul, to discuss the challenge facing the government in the coming months: creating the conditions to ensure the holding of fair and inclusive elections while remaining committed to the social and economic development of the country.

Major Caribbean public health Issues being addressed by CARPHA

The Caribbean Public Health Agency, CARPHA is working to address the most prominent health issues within public health in the Caribbean. At a recent executive board meeting held by Heads of CARPHA, several of these problem areas were discussed including local management of diseases.

Executive Director of CARPHA, Dr. C James Hospedales explained that collaboration among all sectors is critical in the management of diseases affecting the region such as Chikungunya and Dengue.
