BOGOTA, Nov 30 (Thomson Reuters Foundation) - Data from 17 countries and territories across the Americas, including the United States, Canada and Chile, show they may have eliminated mother-to-child transmission of HIV and syphilis, the U.N. World Health Organization said on Monday.

In the current global effort to address climate change under the Convention, Commonwealth member states have submitted, as of 28 November 2015, 50 Intended Nationally Determined Contributions (INDCs), whose mitigation components cover 17% of global emissions of greenhouse gases.

High Internet And Mobile Data Charges Hampering Business Development - Professor

Professor of Communications Policy and Digital Media at the University of the West Indies, Dr Hopeton Dunn has raised concerns that the high cost of Internet access and mobile data charges may be hampering the ability of Jamaicans to use the Internet for innovation driven activities.

Responding to questions from the The Gleaner, Dunn pointed out several weaknesses in Jamaica’s Information Communication Technology (ICT) sector.

According to Dunn, Jamaica currently benefits from access to a robust global ICT network and diverse content providers.

Hurricane Joaquin’s impact shows ‘climate change is real’ – PM Christie tells Commonwealth Business Forum

The Hon. Perry Christie, Prime Minister of The Bahamas, said Wednesday that the damage his country suffered during the passage of Hurricane Joaquin showed that climate change was real.

The Prime Minister, who is also The Bahamas’s Minister of Finance made the assertion in his address to the Commonwealth Business Forum in st. Julian’s, Malta. The Business Forum is one of the events leading up to the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting which will be held in Malta from November 27-29.

he Caribbean is open to business! That was Prime Minister Freundel Stuart’s clear message today in Malta, as he addressed a Commonwealth Business Forum which focused on investment in the Caribbean. 

He was joined by the Prime Ministers of St. Kitts and Nevis, Timothy Harris; and Trinidad and Tobago, Keith Rowley. Mr. Stuart told his audience that CARICOM states offered a wide array of investment opportunities and listed some of them as construction, manufacturing and oil and gas.
