Jamaica to host international tech conference in April 2016

BELIZE CITY, Belize -- Montego Bay, Jamaica, will host the next regional gathering of the Caribbean Network Operators Group (CaribNOG) from April 19 to 24, 2016.

Stephen Lee, programme director of CaribNOG, made the announcement at its tenth regional meeting in Belize City.

“Jamaica is the perfect location for CaribNOG 11 because of its demonstrated capacity for innovation and its clear commitment to regional development,” Lee said.

CARICOM opportunities to come through education, says Barbados ambassador

BRIDGETOWN, Barbados (BGIS) -- Barbados’ ambassador to the Caribbean Community (CARICOM), Robert Morris, is of the view that however the nation evolves, it will be based on the efforts and contribution of those who are employed.

The ambassador was at the time addressing fourth and fifth form students who attended the 2015 edition of EduNation – one of the activities to mark Education Month – on October 20.

Zika Virus Reaches the Caribbean Community

Port of Spain, Trinidad and Tobago, November 12, 2015.  On November 09, 2015, the Caribbean Public Health Agency (CARPHA) confirmed five (5) case of Zika virus in a territory of the Caribbean Community.  Earlier this year, suspected cases of the mosquito-borne disease were reported in Brazil and the Dominican Republic.

BRIDGETOWN, Barbados - The Caribbean Tourism Organization (CTO), in association with the Caribbean Hotel and Tourism Association (CHTA), has produced the first Caribbean Tourism and Hospitality Investment Guide targeted at international investors.

The publication showcases a wide range of investment opportunities in the tourism and hospitality sector in CTO member states and lists incentives that Caribbean Governments are offering to attract new business.

Caribbean Region Needs To Focus On The Well-being Of Its Citizens, Says Minister Of National Security

The safety and security of citizens is of grave importance and there is a call for countries in the region to shift from traditional concepts of state security to a broader multi-dimensional concept that focuses on citizen security and safety and well-being of Caribbean citizens, said Dr. the Honourable Timothy Harris, Prime Minister and Minister of National Security.

The Prime Minister outlined this while delivering remarks at the National Dialogue on Sustainable Human Development and the Citizen Security Agenda Workshop on Monday, November 09, at the St. Kitts Marriott Resort.

Guyana gets US$350,000 under CBSI

Guyana has received an additional US$350, 000 under the Caribbean Basin Security Initiative (CBSI), to support its law enforcement and narcotics control interventions.

 Minister of Foreign Affairs, Carl Greenidge, and United States Ambassador to Guyana, Perry Holloway, today in the Main Conference Room of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, signed the CBSI’s “Letter of Agreement Three Point Two” which provides for the funding.
