CDB approves USD 10 million policy based loan to Grenada

BRIDGETOWN, Barbados – October 15, 2015 – The Board of Directors of the Caribbean Development Bank has approved the provision of a USD10 million loan to the Government of Grenada, to support reforms to stabilize the economy and pave the way for sustainable growth. This is the second of three Policy-Based Loans (PBLs) that have been proposed for Grenada to support that Government’s 36 month “Home grown” adjustment programme to restore fiscal and debt sustainability, improve competitiveness and promote sustainable growth.

World Food Day: Building a movement to end hunger

Continued support for CARICOM Institutions

Despite its current economic challenges, Government remains committed to its obligations as a financial contributor to CARICOM institutions.

SELA starts today in Jamaica Seminar on Financing and Guarantees to support SMEs in the Caribbean


Caracas, October 15, 2015. - The city of Kingston, capital of Jamaica, will host today the "Seminar on Financing and Guarantees to support SMEs in the Caribbean", organized by the Permanent Secretariat of Latin American and Caribbean Economic System (SELA), which seeks to advance the establishment and consolidation of security systems, created to facilitate access to credit for small and medium enterprises (SMEs), that contribute to the development and production management of the SMEs.

CXC inaugurates new headquarters

The Barbados-based Caribbean Examination Council (CXC) inaugurated its new headquarters in Barbados Wednesday with the Caribbean Community (CARICOM) Chairman Freundel Stuart saying it underscored the importance of the regional integration movement to Caribbean development.

Stuart, the Prime Minister of Barbados, said that the CXC was the fourth regional institution established by regional countries soon after gaining political independence from Britain in the 1960s.

India moves to strengthen business relations with Caribbean

India has begun courting Caribbean states to expand trade although the Asian country’s current trade volume with the Caribbean stands at mere US$1 billion. On his recent visit to the United Nations, Prime Minister Narendra Modi held separate meetings with chiefs of several Caribbean countries, including Guyana, Saint Lucia, St Vincent and the Grenada.

Dominican and Haitian Artisans Receive Training from Cuban Masters

Twenty artisans from Haiti and the Dominican Republic have honed their design and craft skills following a 25-day training programme with two of Cuba’s most accomplished master artisans Maité Dumenigo and Yanel Rodriguez.  The workshop hosted by the Caribbean Export Development Agency (Caribbean Export), in collaboration with the National Handicraft Center of the Cominican Republic (CENEDARTE) and the Fundación para el Desarrollo de la Artesanía (FUNDARTE), was held from September 7 to October 2, 2015 in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic.
