Eat local thrust: St. Kitts and Nevis holds first Pumpkin Festival

Basseterre, St. Kitts (SKNIS):  Honourable Eugene Hamilton, Minister of Agriculture, has hailed the first ever Pumpkin Festival and Arts Exhibition at the St. Kitts Eco-Park Grounds at Sir Gilles Estate in Sandy Point, as  a success, as it promotes locally grown produce. The festival was held on Saturday, October 03.

CDEMA deploys teams to assess hurricane damage in The Bahamas

The Caribbean Disaster Emergency Management Agency (CDEMA) yesterday deployed three rapid damage and needs assessment teams to The Bahamas to determine the extent of damage suffered during the passage of Hurricane Joaquin over the weekend.

The CDEMA-led teams will provide assistance to the disaster agencies in the Bahamas in the assessment of damage to critical facilities, infrastructure and housing, water, sanitation and health, telecommunications and coastal zones, as well as provide general disaster response and relief support.

CARICOM IMPACS join in Interdiction training

CARICOM IMPACS in collaboration with the US Government concluded a week long Joint Interdiction Training in the U.S. Virgin Islands, on Tuesday.

The training, targeted at regional border security officials, was made possible through funding under the Caribbean Basin Security Initiative and was overseen by personnel from the US Customs and Border Protections (CBP).

A very important discussion taking place at the regional conference on Information and Communication Technologies (ICT) Week 2015 in the Virgin Islands (British) has to do with the concept of a single ICT space, something Jamaica’s Minister of Science, Technology, Energy and Mining Honourable Phillip Paulwell sees as a major beat as the Caribbean Telecommunications Union (CTU) seeks to abolish roaming in the Caribbean.

Hon Paulwell was at the time delivering his final speech as President of the Caribbean Telecommunications Union (CTU), having served for three periods.

CARICOM, India Ministers meet in New York

Minister of Foreign Affairs and Aviation of St. Kitts and Nevis, the Hon. Mark Brantley on Thursday joined his counterparts from CARICOM and India for the Second CARICOM-India Joint Ministerial Meeting in New York. The meeting was co-chaired by the Hon. Alva Baptiste of Saint Lucia, and the Hon. Swaraz Shushma of India. Minister Brantley was accompanied by Mr. Samuel Berridge, Counsellor at the Permanent Mission of St. Kitts and Nevis to the United Nations.

The Caribbean is a priority for my government, for this reason I launched the initiative called: Costa Rica from the Caribbean, for the development of the costarican Caribbean coast. This proposal brings together a number of projects agreed between the private productive sector, social organizations, local governments and other public institutions for the well being of all.
