PAHO says 2015 saw progress, challenges in health in the Caribbean

WASHINGTON, Jan. 2, CMC – The Pan-American Health Organization (PAHO) says 2015 saw both progress and challenges in health in the Americas, including the Caribbean.

In its end of year report, PAHA said the Americas in April became the world’s first region to be declared free of endemic transmission of rubella, a contagious disease that can cause serious birth defects and even fetal death if contracted by women during pregnancy.

Electronic marking is making progress - CXC

The Caribbean Examinations Council started using electronic marking, also known as e-marking, during the May-June 2013 marking exercise.  E-marking facilitates the assignment of electronic scripts to examiners and the marking of these scripts in an online environment instead of relocating to a physical location. The process started with two subjects at the Caribbean Secondary Examination Certificate (CSEC) level.

2016 is Guyana’s time for renewal -President Granger

During the broadcast, the President said "this is a time for a national renaissance. The prospects are bright. The portents are propitious. This New Year is a time to chart our course for the next five years to 2020 and beyond."

In his first New Year’s Address to the Nation as Head of State, President David Granger declared that the year 2016 must be seen as Guyana’s year for renewal.

Cruise company to create first ever marine reserve island in Bahamas

Geneva-based global cruise line MSC Cruises has unveiled plans to create an unprecedented exclusive marine reserve island experience in the Bahamas.

The project was officially launched recently in Nassau, where Prime Minister Perry Christie and MSC Cruises Executive Chairman Pierfrancesco Vago signed a 100-year lease agreement that will enable MSC Cruises to occupy and develop the island to be called Ocean Cay MSC Marine Reserve.
