CARIFORUM states build public procurement capacity

Public procurement practitioners and policy-makers in Trinidad and Tobago will enhance their expertise in public procurement at a five-day CARIFORUM/EU training course, scheduled for 14-18 December, 2015 in Port-of-Spain.

An output of the 10th EDF funded CARIFORUM/EU Capacity-Building Project, the training is one of several to be held throughout CARIFORUM member states, over the life of the project.

Human Rights Day being observed today

Human Rights Day is observed every year on 10 December. It commemorates the day on which, in 1948, the United Nations General Assembly adopted the Universal Declaration of Human Rights. In 1950, the Assembly passed resolution 423 (V), inviting all States and interested organizations to observe 10 December of each year as Human Rights Day.

Farmers praised for helping to reduce Jamaica food import bill

With the $5.014 billion dollar decline in the country’s food import bill, Minister of Agriculture and Fisheries,  Derrick Kellier is praising farmers in St. Ann, for their resilience and commitment, who, despite the drought conditions, successfully increased food production, which aided in the reduction of the country’s food import bill.

More Than 700 Girls To Engage In Computer Coding

More than 700 girls across the island will be engaged in computer coding simultaneously between Thursday, December 10 and Saturday, December 12.

The programme, ‘Jamaican Girls Coding’, is designed to target females between the ages of 12 and 14. It aims to introduce young girls to the male dominated field of computer coding.

During the three days, persons who are registered may log onto jamaicangirlscoding.com to participate in the activity from any computer in any location with internet connectivity. Persons may also use tablet computers.

United Nations Security Council adopts ground-breaking resolution on Youth, Peace and Security

New York – The United Nations Security Council has today adopted a ground-breaking resolution on Youth, Peace and Security which recognizes that “young people play an important and positive role in the maintenance and promotion of international peace and security”. This historic acknowledgement of the critical role of young people’s role in supporting durable peace will bolster the work of young women and young men engaged in efforts to prevent violence, reconcile communities and resolve conflict.
