Regional HIV Consultation identifies steps to eliminate stigma and discrimination

(CARICOM Secretariat, Turkeyen, Greater Georgetown, Guyana)     After two days of dialogue, more than 75 delegates, representing Caribbean countries, regional institutions and development partners of the Pan Caribbean Partnership against HIV and AIDS (PANCAP), arrived at approximately 15 actionable recommendations aimed at ending HIV-related stigma and discrimination over the next three to five years.

Statement by Ambassador Claes Hammar, Plenipotentiary Representative of the Kingdom of Sweden to the Caribbean Community (CARICOM) on the Occasion of the Presentation of Credentials to Ambassador Irwin LaRocque, Secretary-General of CARICOM

It is a great honour for me to present today, as the first time ever for Sweden, my credentials as Plenipotentiary Representative of the Kingdom of Sweden to the Caribbean Community, CARICOM, signed by the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Sweden, Mr. Carl Bildt. Although I and my predecessors have been accredited to the individual Member States of CARICOM, we see this as an historic and significant step in our wish to deepen our relations with this important region.

New Swedish Ambassador to CARICOM sees his appointment as historic

The newly accredited Ambassador of Sweden to the Caribbean Community (CARICOM), His Excellency Claes Hammar, has described the formalisation of his country’s ties with the Community as an historic and significant step.
Following meetings with Ministers of Foreign Affairs of Sweden and other Nordic countries and CARICOM Foreign Ministers in the margins of the United Nations General Assembly, the Ambassador said that his accreditation was significant in deepening Sweden’s relations with “this important region.”

CARICOM indebted to Professor Girvan – CARICOM Secretary-General

(CARICOM Secretariat, Turkeyen, Greater Georgetown, Guyana)     The death of Professor Norman Girvan, an “unstinting advocate for Caribbean integration”, has left a void in the intellectual capital of the Caribbean Community (CARICOM), Secretary-General Ambassador Irwin LaRocque said Friday. In a tribute, Ambassador LaRocque said that the Community was indebted to Professor Girvan for his prolific writings and intellectual contribution on the issues of Caribbean development.

CARICOM accredits first Swedish Ambassador

(CARICOM Secretariat, Turkeyen, Greater Georgetown, Guyana)     While Sweden has forged diplomatic relations with countries within the Caribbean Community (CARICOM) through the establishment of honorary consulates in each CARICOM Member State and by signing of Tax Information Exchange Agreements with eight of them, it had no such ties with the regional bloc.

Madam Speaker, it is with a deep sense of sorrow that I rise to briefly pay tribute to the life of a true Caribbean luminary, leader and past President and Prime Minister of the Republic of Trinidad and Tobago, Arthur Napoleon Raymond Robinson, better known throughout the region as ANR Robinson who departed this life on 9th April at the age of 87.

A few notable highlights of his illustrious career included his election to the Federation in the late1950's, his rise to prime minister from 1986-1991 and his election as President from 1997-2003.

Results needed Prime Minister Douglas tells Caribbean Human Rights Consultation

It is time for accelerated action”, says St. Kitts and Nevis Prime Minister, and Chair of the Pan Caribbean Partnership against HIV and AIDS, the Rt Hon. Dr. Denzil Douglas. The Prime Minister was speaking at the official opening of the Caribbean Consultation on Justice for All and Human Rights Agenda, in Kingston Jamaica, on Wednesday.

President Robinson was a true Caribbean Man – SG LaRocque

(CARICOM Secretariat, Turkeyen, Greater Georgetown, Guyana)     The legacy of the Honourable Arthur Napoleon Robinson OCC to the Caribbean Community “has endured and will ensure that he will be remembered as a true Caribbean Man.” So said Secretary-General of the Caribbean Community (CARICOM) Ambassador Irwin LaRocque as he paid tribute to the former President of Trinidad and Tobago who passed away on Wednesday.
