CARICOM, French Republic forge closer cooperation

(CARICOM Secretariat, Turkeyen, Greater Georgetown, Guyana)     The Caribbean Community (CARICOM) and French Republic on Thursday, 24 April formalised diplomatic relations with the accreditation of H.E. Michel Prom, Plenipotentiary Representative of France to CARICOM.
CARICOM Secretary-General Ambassador Irwin LaRocque accepted the Letters of Credence in a simple handing over ceremony in his office at the Headquarters of the CARICOM Secretariat, Georgetown, Guyana.

Your Excellency, it is my honor to present to you the letter from my Minister of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation by which I have been designated Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary / Permanent Representative of Spain to the Caribbean Community (CARICOM).

Excellency, it is truly my pleasure and honour to welcome you on the occasion of the presentation of your credentials as the Kingdom of Spain’s Plenipotentiary Representative to the Caribbean Community.

It is an honour and a pleasure for me to welcome you today – both to the Secretariat and to the first Secretariat observance of Girls in ICT day.
In observing this day with you – we show continued solidarity with the  United Nations and the International Telecommunications Union’s (ITU’s) call for action to empower women and girls to meet their goals and aspirations by using and also becoming an active part in delivering success in Information Communications Technology.

CARICOM officials to discuss Consumer Protection

(CARICOM Secretariat, Turkeyen, Greater Georgetown, Guyana)     The CARICOM Rapid Alert System for Information Exchange on Dangerous Goods (CARREX) will be the focus of   the Seventh Meeting of Consumer Affairs, in Jamaica on 24 – 25 April 2014.   CARREX is part of a CARICOM Secretariat project, funded by the European Union under the Tenth European Development Fund (EDF); and is intended to boost consumer protection and confidence and to improve the quality of products entering and trading on the regional market.

Chilean President assures CARICOM of her country’s support

CARICOM Secretariat, Turkeyen, greater Georgetown, Guyana)     Chile’s President Her Excellency Michele Bachelet assured CARICOM Secretary-General Ambassador Irwin LaRocque of her country ’s continuing support for the development of the Caribbean Community (CARICOM).

CARICOM youth ambassador delighted with youth participation in human rights consultation

BASSETERRE, St Kitts -- Sonia Boddie, Caribbean Community (CARICOM) Youth Ambassador for the Federation of St Kitts and Nevis, was a part of the youth contingent selected from across the region, to participate in the Pan-Caribbean Partnership Against HIV and Aids (PANCAP) Caribbean Consultation on Justice for All and Human Rights Agenda, convened under the theme “Advancing Justice for ALL and Human Rights in the Caribbean”, and held in Kingston Jamaica, from 10-11 April, 2014. 

 

SG praises CARICOM-Chile co-operation

(CARICOM Secretariat, Turkeyen, Greater Georgetown, Guyana)     Secretary-General of the Caribbean Community (CARICOM) Ambassador Irwin LaRocque hailed CARICOM-Chile co-operation as a model for South-South co-operation.
At a meeting with Chilean Foreign Minister His Excellency Heraldo Muñoz in Santiago on the first day of an official visit to the country, Ambassador LaRocque said the co-operation was “strong and meaningful” and was making an impact in the Community.
