Regional Commission to address the issues regarding marijuana use mandated by CARICOM Heads

(CARICOM Secretariat, Turkeyen, Greater Georgetown, Guyana)      Heads of Government of the Caribbean Community (CARICOM) have mandated that a Regional Commission be set up to address issues identified in relation to marijuana use.

This announcement was made by Chairman of the Conference of Heads of Government, Dr. the Hon Ralph Gonsalves during a press conference that concluded the 25th Intersessional Meeting Tuesday in St Vincent and the Grenadines on Tuesday.

The Twenty-Fifth Inter-Sessional Meeting of the Conference of Heads of Government of the Caribbean Community (CARICOM) was held at the Buccament Bay Resort, Buccament, St. Vincent and the Grenadines, from 10-11 March 2014.  Dr. the Honourable Ralph E. Gonsalves, Prime Minister of St. Vincent and the Grenadines, who assumed the Chair of the Conference for the six-month period commencing 1 January 2014, presided.

CARICOM moves ahead with Single ICT Space

(CARICOM Secretariat, Turkeyen, Greater Georgetown, Guyana)     The Caribbean Community (CARICOM) will focus over the next two years on unveiling the Single Information Communication Technology ICT Space as the digital layer of the CARICOM Single Market and Economy (CSME).
Chairman of the Conference of Heads of Government, Dr. the Hon. Ralph Gonsalves, Prime Minister of St. Vincent and the Grenadines, said Tuesday evening that a Roadmap to this end would be developed and presented to the Heads of Government Meeting in July 2015.

The Caribbean Community (CARICOM) commemorated and celebrated its fortieth anniversary last year.  During those forty years, CARICOM has chalked up a wide range of achievements, some of which are impressive, others modest.  Of course, there have also been setbacks, disappointments and failures particularly around freedom of movement of persons, good governance and implementation issues.

Reform Consultations and Commission on Economy endorse relevance of CSME

(CARICOM Secretariat, Turkeyen, Greater Georgetown, Guyana)     Speaking about the on-going CARICOM Reform Process, Secretary General of the Caribbean Community Ambassador Irwin LaRocque said it had validated the relevance of the CSME as the platform from which to build the Community’s economic resilience.
Ambassador LaRocque was speaking during the opening ceremony of the Twenty-Fifth Intersessional Meeting of the CARICOM Heads of Government in St. Vincent and the Grenadines on Monday.

I take great pleasure today in formally passing Chairmanship of the Conference of the Heads of Government of the Caribbean Community (CARICOM) to Dr The Honourable Ralph Gonzalves, Prime Minister of St Vincent and the Grenadines.
I congratulate him and express my sincerest hope that his tenure will be rewarding and productive, and pledge every possible support that he will need.
My tenure as Chairman came as a source of great honour and pride for Trinidad & Tobago, as it coincided with the celebration of the 40th anniversary of CARICOM.

All set for CARICOM Summit

(CARICOM Secretariat, Turkeyen, Greater Georgetown, Guyana)     Heads of Government of 14 Member States and two Associate Members will gather in St Vincent and Grenadines on Monday at the 25th Intersessional Meeting of the Conference of Heads of Government of the Caribbean Community (CARICOM). Suriname’s President, His Excellency Desiree Bouterse, who is the current President of the Union of South American Nations (UNASUR) will be attending the inauguration of President Michelle Bachelet in Chile on Tuesday. Suriname will be represented at Ministerial level.
