CARICOM states strong objection to EU “blacklist”

The Caribbean Community (CARICOM) strongly objects to the recent decision by the European Commission to "blacklist" a number of Member States of CARICOM on the pretext that there is no cooperation on tax law enforcement with the countries of the European Union (EU). This assertion is patently false in view of the continued efforts made by Member States to comply with the onerous and unilateral regulatory measures put forward by the Organisation of Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD) which sets international standards on tax cooperation

 

CARICOM 10K runs off on Sunday in Barbados

Amateur and professional athletes from across the Caribbean Community (CARICOM) will meet early Sunday (28 June) to compete in the Eleventh Annual CARICOM 10K Road Race on Bay Street Esplanade, Barbados.

A much anticipated feature ahead of the Regular Meeting of the Conference of CARICOM Heads of Government, this edition of the CARICOM 10k precedes the Thirty-Sixth Summit, which opens at the Hilton Barbados Resort on Thursday, 2 July, 2015.

CARICOM appeals to Dominican Republic to halt expulsions

The Caribbean Community (CARICOM) calls on the Government of the Dominican Republic not to expel tens of thousands of Dominicans of Haitian descent. This follows statements by the Dominican Ministry of Interior and the Police which indicate their intention to expel Dominicans of Haitian descent whose citizenship status has not been regularised.

As part of Government’s outreach programme to sensitise the public about the importance of the Caribbean Community (CARICOM) and regional integration, a debate for youth will be staged on Friday, June 26, in the Lower House of Parliament from 10:00 a.m. until 3:00 p.m.

CAHFSA Launches Logo Design Competition

Bridgetown, Barbados, June 17, 2015 – One Caribbean Community (CARICOM) resident is being given the opportunity to walk away with a grand prize of US$1,000 in a logo competition launched by the Caribbean Agricultural Health and Food Safety Agency (CAHFSA).

 

The CAHFSA is inviting submissions of logo designs that reflect the agency’s goals and objectives.

 

The competition, which is funded under the 10th European Development Fund (EDF) Sanitary and Phyto-Sanitary (SPS) Project, is open to residents of all 15 CARICOM Member States.

 

Secretary-General welcomes new EU funding programme

(CARICOM Secretariat, Turkeyen, Greater Georgetown, Guyana)     Secretary-General of the Caribbean Community (CARICOM) Ambassador Irwin LaRocque has welcomed the European Union’s (EU) new regional funding programme for the Caribbean of €346 million. The signing of the Caribbean Regional Indicative Programme (CRIP), financed by the 11th European Development Fund (EDF), took place at the Caribbean Forum of Africa Caribbean Pacific States (CARIFORUM) EU High Level Meeting in Brussels, Belgium.

Antigua/Barbuda to host major CARICOM Development Forum

“CARICOM Overcoming Challenges: Pathway to Development”. That is the focus of a major regional forum to be held in Antigua and Barbuda on Tuesday 23 June 2015.

Prime Minister of Antigua and Barbuda, Hon. Gaston Brown will be among the Forum’s list of high level presenters, drawn from the Caribbean Community, the EU Delegation to the Eastern Caribbean and Barbados, Caribbean Export Development Agency, the Organisation of American States and the Caribbean Court of Justice.

The presenters will share their insights in five thematic areas:

Region to get new funding from the European Union

This amount represents more than a doubling of the funds that were available in previous years (€165 million euros).

The signing took place on the occasion of the 2nd Summit of the European Union and the Community of Latin American and Caribbean States (EU-CELAC), and the EU-CARIFORUM High Level Event,  11-12 June in Brussels.
