The Caribbean Community heartily extends congratulations to the Republic of Guyana on the celebration of forty-nine years of independence.
During its 49 years of Independence, Guyana has played an active leadership role in fostering regional unity, particularly its prominence in the formation of CARIFTA and CARICOM. Regional integration has consistently been an integral part of Guyana’s development and this has assisted in fuelling the country’s growth. The country has made great strides in the period and its people have shown great resilience.
The Eighteenth Meeting of the Council for Foreign and Community Relations (COFCOR) of the Caribbean Community (CARICOM) took place in Castries, Saint Lucia, on 21-22 May 2015, under the chairmanship of the Honourable Alva Baptiste, Minister for External Affairs, International Trade and Civil Aviation of Saint Lucia.
(CARICOM Secretariat, Turkeyen, Greater Georgetown, Guyana) Officials involved in the field of statistics will next week begin a four-day training session that will focus on the status of and requirements for the Region as it prepares for the post-2015 era.
The Training Workshop by the Caribbean Community (CARICOM) Secretariat, with support from the Tenth European Development Fud (EDF), will be held in Port-of-Spain, Trinidad and Tobago, 26-29 May.
A four-day workshop on financing biodiversity in the Region being held by the CARICOM Secretariat at theCity View Hotel in Antigua and Barbuda ended on Thursday.
The Caribbean Community (CARICOM) is diversifying and widening its foreign policy thrust in response to shifts in balance of powers as well as the dynamic and fluid changes taking place in the global environment.
While it was both challenging and necessary, the Community has also acknowledged and responded accordingly to the management of shared problems in an interdependent world, in the formulation and coordination of its foreign policy.
The Caribbean Community (CARICOM) has extended condolences to the Government and people of Guyana following the mining disaster in Konawaruk on Sunday, 17 May, that claimed the lives of at least ten miners. The Community has also wished a speedy and full recovery to miners who were injured.

(CARICOM Secretariat, Turkeyen, Greater Georgetown, Guyana) The Caribbean Community (CARICOM) Secretariat welcomes the decision of Canada to seek a new waiver in the World Trade Organisation (WTO) for the CARIBCAN arrangements. The Secretariat looks forward to its early approval which will ensure that existing CARICOM trade with Canada will continue without disruption.
The Caribbean Community (CARICOM) will mount a CARICOM Electoral Observer Mission to monitor the general elections to be held in Suriname on Monday 25 May, 2015.
