The Community recognises that the challenges of development are deep-seated. Significant resources and appropriate and mutually reinforcing policies at national, regional and international levels are required to address the difficulties facing developing countries. CARICOM Member States, therefore, continue to maintain their commitment to regional integration as the platform for securing inclusive sustainable growth.
(CARICOM Secretariat, Turkeyen, Greater Georgetown, Guyana) The need for a “whole systems’ approach to education transformation in the Region is a major area of focus for Caribbean Community (CARICOM) Ministers of Education at a 2-day meeting of the CARICOM Council for Human and Social Development (COHSOD) which opened in Guyana, Thursday.
(CARICOM Secretariat, Turkeyen, Greater Georgetown, Guyana) The Third Meeting of the Joint CARIFORUM-European Union (EU) Council under the Economic Partnership Agreement (EPA) got underway this morning at the Arthur Chung Convention Centre in Liliendaal, Guyana. The Meeting is being held under the chairmanship of Hon. Oliver Joseph, Minister of Economic Development, Planning, Trade, Cooperatives and International Business of Grenada.
The Twenty-Seventh Meeting of the Council for Human and Social Development (COHSOD) will focus its discussions on education and children when it convenes tomorrow at the CARICOM Secretariat. The theme of the two-day meeting is ‘Safeguarding our Region’s future, reshaping education for the Twenty-First century”.

STATEMENT FROM THE TWENTY-THIRD MEETING OF CARICOM’S REGIONAL CULTURAL COMMITTEE REGARDING RECENT ACTIONS BY THE STATE OF THE DOMINICAN REPUBLIC
The Regional Cultural Committee,
-Acknowledging its role as the vanguard and custodian of cultural development in CARICOM;
-Acknowledging and recognising that the culture of the people of the region is deeply rooted in our diasporic history and is therefore central to our entire region’s development;
CARICOM Secretary-General Ambassador Irwin LaRocque has extended congratulations to the Government and people of The Bahamas on the country’s 42nd Anniversary of Independence.
CARICOM Heads of State and Government reaffirmed the longstanding, deep and wide-ranging friendship between CARICOM and the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela.
They recalled the numerous agreements in the area of trade, investment, tourism and people-to-people contacts which bind the Governments and peoples of CARICOM and Venezuela together.
Heads of Government of the Caribbean Community expressed their abhorrence and outrage with respect to the treatment of Dominicans of Haitian descent and Haitian migrants in the Dominican Republic. This human rights situation is exacerbated as the tempo of so-called voluntary repatriation gathers pace in unregulated conditions resulting from pressures and the threat of violence as well as the absence of a revised bilateral framework between Haiti and the Dominican Republic that the latter has been unwilling to conclude.
A delegation of officials from countries across CARICOM is currently in Haiti for the Interim Festival Directors and Artistic Directors meetings on CARIFESTA XII. The delegation will be in Haiti until Friday 10 July, 2015. There will also be a Regional Launch of CARIFESTA XII this evening at the Ibo Lele Hotel at 7:00 pm.
