Roles for both public, private sectors to push agriculture – CARICOM DSG at CWA opening

Both the public and private sectors must play their roles in order for the Region’s agricultural sector to achieve its full potential, Ambassador Dr. Manorma Soeknandan, Deputy Secretary-General of the Caribbean Community (CARICOM) said Wednesday.

The Deputy Secretary-General made the point as she delivered remarks at the official opening of the Caribbean Week of Agriculture (CWA) 2014, in Paramaribo, Suriname. The CWA is being held at the Suriname Chamber of Commerce.

Government announces new regulation as the country explores for oil

NASSAU, Bahamas, Oct 8, CMC – The Bahamas government Wednesday said it has completed the preparation of a new Petroleum Act and a suite of regulations designed to guide and govern oil exploration in country.

 

Environment and Housing Minister Kenred M.A. Dorsett said the legislation and regulations will form “an integral part” of the recently announced National Energy policy.

Dominica wants evaluation of Caribbean Agriculture Week; CTA says that’s planned

The Netherlands –based Technical Centre for Agricultural and Rural Cooperation (CTA) on Wednesday signaled its willingness to review the success of the annual Caribbean Week of Agriculture (CWA).

Executive Director of the CTA, Michael Hailu said his organization would possibly conduct the CWA assessment, following concerns by Dominica’s Minister of Agriculture Matthew Walter at a meeting of the Agriculture Alliance held in Paramaribo, Suriname as part of CWA 2014.

Ebola survivors’ blood to treat deadly disease

The World Health Organization (WHO) has announced that the blood of patients who recover from the deadly Ebola virus could be used to treat those still suffering from the disease. Like other infections, infected humans produce antibodies in the blood in an attempt to fight off an Ebola attack.
