Venezuela commits to PetroCaribe despite oil price dip

CARACAS, November 20, 2014 - Venezuela on Thursday pledged that the preferences given to regional countries under the PetroCaribe Agreement will remain in place, with oil being supplied on favorable terms to member states despite a drop in international crude prices.

This commitment was given during a meeting of PetroCaribe member states in Caracas to review the current situation.

Climate Resilience Strategy and Action Plan being developed under the LCDS

A CLIMATE Resilience Strategy and Action Plan (CRSAP) is currently being developed by the Government of Guyana through the Office of Climate Change (OCC), to provide a comprehensive framework for addressing climate change adaptation and resilience in Guyana. This framework will help Guyana to address direct and indirect impacts associated with extreme events, as well as emerging, indirect, slow-onset climate impacts and hazards.The project is being developed in partnership with Conservation International Foundation Guyana (CI-Guyana) with support from the Kingdom of Norway.

IMF monitoring impact of PetroCaribe on regional economies

By Kenton Chance KINGSTOWN, St. Vincent, Nov 19, CMC -- The International Monetary Fund (IMF) says it is monitoring the potential impact any changes to PetroCaribe, Venezuela’s oil alliance with several Caribbean islands will have on regional economies.

 

Analysts say the initiative, which allows countries to pay for part of their oil import from Caracas over a 20-year period at low interest rates, will have to be modified or discontinued amidst a worsening economic situation in the South American country..

Former Secretary General launches memoirs

WASHINGTON, Nov. 18, CMC - Former Secretary General of the Commonwealth and the Caribbean Community (CARICOM) Sir Shridath Ramphal has launched his memoirs entitled, “Glimpse of a Global Life” .

The launch was held at the Hall of Americas at the Organization of American States (OAS) last Friday at the 58th lecture series of the Americas.

CARICOM Energy Week launched

Prime Minister of St. Vincent and the Grenadines, Dr. the Hon. Ralph Gonsalves, on Monday launched activities to mark CARICOM Energy Week which is being observed Region-wide from 16-22 November 2014. The theme for the week is ‘Achieving Climate and Economic Resilience through Sustainable Development’.

In remarks at the ceremony held at the VINLEC Lowmans Bay Power Plant in Kingstown, Prime Minister Gonsalves said that St. Vincent and the Grenadines had the potential to become one of the first countries worldwide to have electricity provided completely by green energy.

Caribbean must improve export performance

BRIDGETOWN, Barbados — Exports from the Dominican Republic and Jamaica to Europe are trending up, but the Caribbean as a whole has earned a less than stellar report card from the Caribbean Export Development Agency (CEDA).

Pamela Coke-Hamilton, executive director of CEDA, assigned grades ranging from a B- to an F in giving the report card on various areas of export-related performance in the region at the Caribbean Exporters' Colloquium 2014 held last week in Bridgetown under the theme 'Building Economic Resilience in the Caribbean'.
