CARICOM: Preparations Underway in Cuba


The fifth summit between Caricom nations and Cuba will be held in Havana. Caricom-Cuba continues to model stronger ties among Caribbean nations strengthing solidarity and cooperation in the region.

On Monday, the Fifth Caribbean Community (CARICOM) Summit with Cuba will take place in Havana. The Palace of the Revolution will be the headquarters for next week’s events where heads of state will gather to discuss integration and cooperation.

Belize observes World AIDS Day with goal of getting to ZeroHIV

Belize joins the rest of the world on December 1 to celebrate World AIDS Day with a single goal of “Getting to Zero: Zero new HIV infections. Zero discrimination. Zero AIDS- related deaths.”

To raise awareness on World AIDS Day the National HIV Programme of the Ministry of Health partnered with the National AIDS Commission (NAC), Pan American Social Marketing Organization (PASMO Belize) and other partner agencies to host art and health fairs in eight locations countrywide. In Belize City the fair was held at the center of town, the Battlefield Park. 

Barbados and TT sign fishing protocol

Barbados and TT have signed a protocol on common procedures relating to the arrest of crew, or detention of fishing vessels, in each other country’s territorial waters.

New passports to be re-issued at no cost to holders

The rules governing international travel are ever-evolving and every country, including St. Kitts and Nevis, has the right to determine who will and will not enter its territory, and St. Kitts-Nevis respects this.

So says St. Kitts and Nevis’ Prime Minister the Rt. Hon. Dr. Denzil L. Douglas, who added that in keeping with his Government’s commitment to ensuring the highest possible standards where identity management is concerned.

He said his Government will be re-issuing, at no cost to passport holders, certain St. Kitts and Nevis passports.

OAS launches workshop on drug treatment courts in the Caribbean

The Organization of American States (OAS) on Wednesday inaugurated the third and final two-day regional training workshop on the Monitoring and Evaluation of Drug Treatment Courts (DTCs) in Bridgetown, Barbados.

Participants in the workshop organized by the Inter-American Drug Abuse Control Commission (CICAD) of the OAS, included judicial, health and drug treatment officials from Barbados, Belize, Jamaica, Trinidad and Tobago, and Canada, including the Chief Justices of Belize and Barbados.

Faster HIV Testing Process Coming To Nevis Soon

NIA CHARLESTOWN NEVIS (December 02, 2014) - Persons unaware of their HIV status, will soon have the opportunity to test at select health care providers on Nevis for same day results. The service to be introduced shortly, is a new initiative planned by the Ministry of Health on Nevis.
