PM Simpson Miller Credits Cuba With Assisting Jamaica’s Athletics Success

HAVANA, Cuba December 9, 2014 - Prime Minister Portia Simpson-Miller has credited Cuba with assisting Jamaica to become a world leader in athletics, noting that the GC Foster College, which was a gift to Jamaica from Cuba in the 1970s, has been responsible for training many of Jamaica´s outstanding athletes and coaches.

Preliminary results gave the DLP 15 of the 21 seats at stake with the other six going to the United Workers Party (UWP) led by Lennox Linton.  In the last election in 2009, the DLP won 18 seats and the UWP three.

PM Douglas in Havana for Fifth CARICOM-Cuba Summit

BASSETERRE, ST. KITTS, DECEMBER 8TH 2014 (CUOPM) – St. Kitts and Nevis’ Prime Minister the Rt. Hon. Dr. Denzil L. Douglas is among Caribbean leaders in Havana, Cuba for a summit between Cuba and the 15-member Caribbean Community (CARICOM).

Prime Minister Douglas, who left a political meeting in Central Basseterre Sunday night joined his St. Lucia counterpart, Dr. the Hon. Kenny Anthony for the trip to Havana.

At CARICOM-Cuba Summit today… Guyana will be ‘full participant’ in all discussions

THE Fifth Summit of the Heads of Government of the Caribbean Community (CARICOM) and Cuba starts today in the Cuban capital, Havana.And according to President Donald Ramotar, who is heading Guyana’s delegation to the meeting, Guyana will be fully participating in every aspect of the talks.

“Guyana will be fully participating in all the topics that are there to be dealt with; and we will be making our contributions,” he told the Guyana Chronicle Saturday in an invited comment.
He also noted Cuba’s sterling contribution to the Caribbean Region.

PM Simpson-Miller to advance trade & invest at Cuba Summit

KINGSTON, Jamaica, December 6, 14 - Prime Minister, the Most Hon. Portia Simpson Miller will lead Jamaica’s delegation to the Fifth Summit of the Heads of Government of the Caribbean Community (CARICOM) and Cuba, which will be held in Havana, Cuba, on Monday, December 8, 2014.

During the meeting, the Prime Minister is slated to lead discussions on a range of trade, investment and cooperation issues of benefit to Jamaica with the country’s closest neighbour.

CARICOM Cuba Leaders to talk trade in Havana

Economic and Trade Relations will be among the issues discussed at the Fifth Summit of the Heads of Government of the Caribbean Community (CARICOM) and Cuba which takes place in Havana, Cuba on Monday 8 December. The Summit will be preceded on Sunday by a meeting of the Foreign Ministers.

In accordance with the Havana Declaration of December 2002, the Summit is held every three years on the date that the leaders of Barbados, Guyana, Jamaica and Trinidad and Tobago broke a diplomatic embargo and visited Cuba. That date December 8 has been designated CARICOM-Cuba Day.
