OAS Secretary General Received South-South Visionary Award

The Secretary General of the Organization of American States (OAS), José Miguel Insulza, received last night the South-South and Triangular Cooperation Visionary Award, during a gala dinner held in the framework of the Global South-South Development Expo, being held this week at the headquarters of the Organization in Washington DC.

Demand for new aircraft in Caribbean to reach 2,300 by 2033

Herdon, Nov. 17, CMC - A report by Airbus has forecast that the Latin America and Caribbean regions will require around 2,300 new airliners by 2033.

This is according to the latest Global Market Forecast (GMF) by Airbus that says this will be driven by strong economy and expected air traffic growth.

Airbus predicts that the total value of new airplanes would be around US$292 billion.

PM of Antigua to work with Jamaica to increase shipping revenue

Prime Minister of Antigua and Barbuda, Hon. Gaston Browne, says his country will collaborate with the Government of Jamaica to increase the Caribbean region’s market share of the lucrative global shipping industry, through ship registration services.                  

Jamaica sets up Internet Exchange Point for Freer, Faster Access

KINGSTON, Jamaica November 14, 2014 – The Jamaican Government  has established an Internet Exchange Point (IXP) which will reduce the cost of  internet use to Jamaicans while having faster access.

Minister of Science and Technology, Phillip Paulwell told the National Medal for Science, Technology and Innovation Awards ceremony on Wednesday, that the IXP, hosted at eGOV Jamaica Limited, will further contribute to the development of a more stable, competitive, cost efficient and robust Information Communication Technology (ICT) and broadband ecosystem in Jamaica.

CARICOM Foreign Ministers hail Japan summit as a success

Gov’t to soon codify energy policy

ST JOHN’S, Antigua – The government has used the observance of Caricom Energy week to announce plans to enact new renewable energy legislation, in a few weeks.

A government press release stated that the move would come as part of a multi-pronged approach to its energy policy.

“This government is committed to empowering Antiguans and Barbudans to benefit directly from our wind, solar and other renewable energy resources,” the release said.

St Kitts and Nevis, India Sign Tax Information Exchange Agreement

The governments of St Kitts and Nevis and India have signed a tax information exchange agreement.

The agreement was signed by St Kitts and Nevis’ Ambassador to the United Nations, Delano Frank, and his Indian counterpart, Ambassador Asoke Kumar Mukerji.

The agreement includes information “relevant to administration of domestic tax laws of each country in terms of assessment, tax claims and prosecution,” according to a government statement.

It also includes information on banking details, company ownership information and other data.
