Caribbean Development Bank suggests overhaul of regional airline industry

BASSETERRE, St Kitts, Thursday May 21, 2015 – A study commissioned by the Caribbean Development Bank (CDB) has recommended a major rethink of the regional airline industry and the setting up of a CARICOM Airlines Association to identify opportunities to reduce costs, create greater synergies and earn more revenue.

IMF approves almost $70 million for Haiti as earthquake recovery continues

WASHINGTON, United States, Thursday May 21, 2015 – The Executive Board of the International Monetary Fund (IMF) has approved a US$69.7 million three-year aid programme for Haiti to help its continued recovery from a devastating earthquake that claimed a quarter million lives five years ago.

About US$10 million has already been disbursed under the Extended Credit Facility (ECF) while the remainder will be phased in, subject to semi-annual programme reviews.

St Kitts PM calls for more integrated approach to region’s challenges

[Basseterre, St. Kitts & Nevis] Chairman of the Board of Governors of the Caribbean Development Bank, Dr. Timothy Harris, Prime Minister of St. Kitts and Nevis, has suggested that Caribbean countries should take a fresh look at a more integrated approach to tackling the region’s development challenges. 

Speaking at the opening ceremony of the 45th Annual Meeting of the Board of Governors of the Caribbean Development Bank (CDB), he proposed what he called an integrated regional approach to the production and distribution of alternative energy, be it blue or green energy.

Productive Deliberations Encouraged At CDB Board Of Governors’ Meeting


Basseterre, St. Kitts, May 20, 2015 (SKNIS): The representatives of the 27 member-states attending the 45th Annual Board of Governors’ Meeting of the Caribbean Development Bank (CDB) were encouraged to undertake productive deliberations to assist in the development of the region.

CDB Launches Study on Regional Air Travel – At Annual Board Of Governors’ Meeting

A study commissioned by the Caribbean Development Bank (CDB) has recommended a major rethink of the regional airline industry and for the setting up of a CARICOM Airlines Association to identify opportunities to reduce costs, create greater synergies and earn more revenue. It has also proposed the creation of an Air Transport Reform Authority to address longer-term strategic issues at the regional level.These were among the steps identified to place the industry on a firmer footing to facilitate its re-launching into the global marketplace as a stronger competitor.
