CARIFESTA XIII preparations: submissions invited for jingle, logo competitions

In preparation for this country’s hosting of the 13th edition of the Caribbean Festival of Arts (CARIFESTA) from August 17 to 27, 2017, the Government of Barbados is inviting submissions of jingles, as well as designs for the CARIFESTA XIII logo.

Both the winning jingle and logo will be awarded a cash prize of Bds $10,000.

Jingles submitted should be 60 seconds in length; should contain voice, lyrics and musical accompaniment; and should speak to unity and the common heritage of the region. 

Belize launches Caribbean’s latest Internet Exchange Point

The Belize Public Utilities Commission announced that Belize’s first Internet exchange point, named BIXP, was successfully launched in Belize City on April 27 at the campus of the University of Belize.

The launch was the culmination of unprecedented collaboration between Belizean Internet Service Providers (ISPs) in the highly competitive local telecommunication sector. The Belize Public Utilities Commission, the national regulator, facilitated the process, with support from regional and international agencies.

US identifies priority areas to help Caribbean economies grow

WASHINGTON, United States (CMC) – United States Secretary of State, John Kerry, has identified what he regarded as three priority areas in which the Obama administration would like the economies of Latin America and the Caribbean to grow and thrive.

Addressing the Council of the Americas’ 46th Annual Washington Conference of the Americas/US-Caribbean-Central American Energy Summit Reception Tuesday night, Kerry said these areas are trade, supporting entrepreneurs and innovators, and promoting accountability and transparency in government institutions.

‘Become the next big thing’ – Min. Nicolette Henry challenges girls

Girls and women across the Region have been challenged to become the next “big thing” in Information and Communication Technology (ICT).

The challenge was thrown out last week by Minister in the Ministry of Education, Guyana, the Hon. Nicolette Henry as she addressed a forum on Girls in ICT in Georgetown, Guyana. The event at the Arthur Chung Conference Centre was held as part of the observances to mark Girls in ICT Day 2016 on 28 April.
