BELIZE CITY – The Caribbean’s indigenous people have urged that they be given a seat at the political table so as to safeguard their rights to their ancestral lands and resources, as they wrapped up an historic University of the West Indies conference of indigenous peoples here over the Labour Day weekend.
The Nineteenth Meeting of the Council for Foreign and Community Relations (COFCOR) of the Caribbean Community (CARICOM) took place in St. Vincent and the Grenadines, on 9-10 May 2016, under the Chairmanship of the Honourable Sir Louis Straker, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Foreign Affairs, Trade, Commerce and Regional Integration of St Vincent and the Grenadines.

A meeting is currently underway in Barbados to chart the course for a new study on the impacts of rising cost factors of fishing operations. The Caribbean Regional Fisheries Mechanism (CRFM) is convening the two-day meeting which concludes today.
Among the rising cost factors in the industry are labour, fuel, fishing gear, repair and maintenance, and capital.
A Commission, charged with creating a Human Resource Development Strategy for the Caribbean Community (CARICOM), will be launched on Thursday, 12 May, 2016, in Barbados. The ceremony will be hosted at the Caribbean Development Bank(CDB).

President Luis Alberto Moreno of the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB), President Warren Smith of the Caribbean Development Bank (CDB), Secretary Ernest Moniz of the United States Department of Energy (DOE), and Secretary General Irwin LaRocque of the Caribbean Community (CARICOM) signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) that creates a framework for cooperation to promote programs and activities that foster the transformation of the energy sector in the Caribbean.
