CDB helps Haitian entrepreneurs find the recipe for success

In Haiti, small-business owner Isabelle Laguerre Mevs has found the recipe for success. Her company turns local produce into condiments that are in demand across the island. Today, the pepper sauce, honey, vinegar, and green seasoning sauce are now on local supermarket shelves and in a number of Haitian restaurants and hotels.

Since 2013, Stars Industries S.A. (SISA) has been growing  into a fruitful agro-processing enterprise. One year after opening, the demand for the company’s pepper sauce product was increasing. SISA needed technical guidance and support.

Caribbean leadership project aims at strengthening future leaders’ capacity

Basseterre, St. Kitts (SKNIS): An initiative known as the Caribbean Leadership Project (CLP) will be implemented in St. Kitts and Nevis to “strengthen the capacity of future leaders in the Caribbean so that they are equipped to contribute more effectively to regional integration and economic growth and support gender-sensitive public sector reform.”

CARICOM-US discuss threat of queen conch lawsuit, IUU fishing

Belize City  (CRFM)—Officials from the Caribbean Community (CARICOM) and the United States advanced talks in Washington last week at the 7th Annual Meeting of the CARICOM-US Trade and Investment Council, on several key concerns affecting trade between the US and the Region. Chief among then was the treat of a lawsuit by US-based NGOs over the harvesting of queen conch for trade. The threat of suit is of great concern to the Region, which exports roughly US$185 million worth of conch meat a year.

CARICOM youth benefit from training in entrepreneurship

Several CARICOM out-of-school youth will benefit from training in entrepreneurship to increase their ability to earn. The exercise is part of the CARICOM/Spain Project: Support for Reducing Youth on Youth Violence in Schools and Communities in CARICOM Member States. It will use the Creativity for Employment and Business Opportunity (CEBO) model to build the capacity of out-of-school youth from the Babanneau community in Saint Lucia, the Cayon community in St.

President Granger confers Order of Roraima on Barbados Prime Minister

Georgetown, Guyana – (May 26, 2016)President David Granger, who is Chancellor of the Orders of Guyana, today, conferred Prime Minister of Barbados, the Right Honourable Freundel Stuart with the insignia of the Order of Roraima, Guyana’s second highest National Award. The investiture ceremony was held at State House.

SVG to host Electric Mobility Conference and Road Show – CARICOM Secretariat among supporting agencies

The Government of St. Vincent and the Grenadines will next week host a conference and road show on electric mobility.

The CARICOM Secretariat, the German Agency for International Cooperation (GIZ), and the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) are among the entities that are collaborating to host the event.

The event will run from 30 May - 2 June, 2016, and is intended to create deeper understanding, and raise awareness on electric transport options and opportunities for the country.

Caribbean Certificate will soon be offered at TVET institutions

Technical Vocational and Education Training (TVET) institutes will soon be offering the Caribbean Vocational Qualifications (CVQ) Certificate. This was disclosed by Chief Education Officer, Olato Sam during an interview with the Government Information Agency (GINA).

Belize and Guatemala Foreign Ministers meet – recognise need to avoid border incidents
