CXC moving to Electronic Testing

Caribbean Examinations Council (CXC) electronic testing is coming soon! Electronic testing will allow learners to take their CXC examinations on a computer or electronic device. This exciting, new initiative is in keeping with CXC’s commitment to observe global quality standards in the delivery of examination services and deliver enhanced learner experiences through the consistent use of technology.

CSME exchange students meet Barbados’ Prime Minister

A group of university students from Barbados is now in Jamaica gaining first hand experience on the practical operations of  the CARICOM Single Market and Economy (CSME).

The visit is part of a project “Students Engaging the CSME through Field promotion”, being executed by the CARICOM Secretariat and funded under the European Union’s 10th European Development Fund (EDF).

Region gets US$3 billion to support renewable energy efforts

NASSAU, Bahamas, Tuesday April 12, 2016 – Japan and the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB) are partnering to invest US$3 billion in Latin America and the Caribbean to support renewable energy and energy efficiency projects, as well as quality infrastructure projects related to energy savings.

CARICOM concerned about resurgence of ‘Tax havens’ label in wake of Panama Papers leak

The Caribbean Community (CARICOM) has expressed concern that the designation of “tax havens” is again being attached to the financial services centres in Member States and Associate Members, following the leak of the “Panama Papers”.


The Community, in a Statement, said the loose attribution of the ‘tax havens’ label ignores the reality that the regulation of this sector in CARICOM is fully compliant with international standards.  The Statement identified international standards that CARICOM Members and Associate Members are committed to and are in compliance with.

Chile committed to strengthening CARICOM ties

Chile has reconfirmed its commitment to building strong ties with Member States of the Caribbean Community (CARICOM) for promotion of economic development and people’s well being.

 

New Chilean Ambassador to CARICOM H.E. Claudio Rojas Rachel outlined his country’s position when he presented his Letters of Credence to CARICOM Secretary-General Ambassador Irwin LaRocque at the headquarters of the CARICOM Secretariat in Georgetown, Guyana, Wednesday.

 

Diabetes: A Big Problem for Years to Come

Port of Spain, Trinidad and Tobago, April 7, 2016.  Studies conducted by the University of the West Indies (UWI) estimate that 1 in every 4 adults in some Caribbean Community (CARICOM) countries have diabetes.  More worrying is the doubling of overweight and obesity in children less than five years, along with the high rates in adolescence, as obesity is one of the major risk factors for Type 2 Diabetes.  Studies also revealed that both obesity and diabetes tend to be significantly higher in women than in men, with, on average, women being twice as likely to be obese and 60 p
