Kazakhstan looks to help Dominica

Kazakhstan is seeking to assist Dominica in its recovery efforts in the wake of Tropical Storm Erika.

Ambassador Konstantin Zhigalov presented his credentials to Ambassador Irwin LaRocque, Secretary-General of the Caribbean Community (CARICOM) on Tuesday at the headquarters of the CARICOM Secretariat, Turkeyen, Guyana. Ambassador Zhigalov expressed his country’s regrets at the loss of life and property in Dominica and indicated Kazakhstan’s interest in rendering assistance.

New CARICOM Assistant Secretary-General makes familarisation visits

New CARICOM Assistant Secretary-General for Trade and Economic Integration (TEI) Mr. Joseph Cox visited key Institutions and Departments during a visit to Barbados. Mr. Cox, a Jamaican, joined the management team at the CARICOM Secretariat at the start of this month.

 

“Discourage the consumption of products with high sugar, trans fats and salt” - SG on Caribbean Wellness Day

As we observe this year’s commemoration under the theme “Love that Body – Eat Healthy, Live Longer”, we must encourage more Member States to adopt the measures recently taken by two of our Member States to discourage the consumption of products with high sugar, trans fats and salt content.

These measures will not be without resistance from industry but evidence from the United States shows that at the local level there has been a 33 per cent reduction in premature mortality due to NCDs in its communities by curbing these risk factors.

Grenada, China Sign MOU on Air Transport Cooperation

China and Grenada signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) on air transport cooperation on September 11, according to a statement on the Civil Aviation Administration of China (CAAC)'s website.

Keith Mitchell, Prime Minister of Grenada, visited the Chinese aviation regulator after he attended the 7th World Economic Forum, also known as the Summer Davos Forum, which was launched in Northeast China's Dalian on September 9-10.

Belize donates to Dominica recovery programme

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Belize is pleased to inform that the Government of Belize will make a cash contribution in the sum of US$125,000 to the Government of Dominica for its relief efforts.

CDB, Agri Ministry in drive to boost aquaculture

THE Caribbean Development Bank (CDB) recently hosted a workshop for staff of the Ministry of Agriculture as it seeks to support the advancement of the aquaculture sector in Guyana.
From August 17 to 21, 2015, CDB conducted a workshop on aquaculture farm management techniques for ministry employees – a training initiative that aims to revitalise the sector and improve the livelihoods of aquaculture entrepreneurs. 

CARICOM SG receives Guyana Private Sector Commission donations for storm-hit Dominica

CARICOM Secretary-General Ambassador Irwin LaRocque today received a donation of items from member companies of the Guyana Private Sector Commission (PSC) to support the recovery effort in storm-damaged Dominica.

The donation of a wide range of medical supplies, generators, cleaning items and cash were presented by New Guyana Pharmaceutical Company, Gaico Construction and General Services Inc., National Hardware and CAMEX.

CARIFESTA XII closes on a high!

The twelfth edition of the Caribbean Festival of Arts CARIFESTA XII has come to a close. The ten-day mega cultural event ended with a closing ceremony at the Kiosque Ocide Jeanty in Champs Mas, Haiti on Sunday night. The night’s activities included a culmination of performances from various Caribbean groups that have performed throughout the festival. There were also closing speeches from  President of Haiti, H.E. Michel Martelly, Minister of Culture of Barbados Hon, Stephen Lashley – representing CARICOM Chairman and Prime Minister of Barbados Rt. Hon.
