SG discusses CARICOM-UNAIDS continued collaboration

CARICOM Secretary-General Ambassador Irwin LaRocque met with UNAIDS Executive Director Mr. Michel Sedibe on the margins of the UN Meetings currently taking place in New York.  The discussions centered around continued collaboration between CARICOM and UNAIDS in the fight against AIDS.

The Caribbean Community  has expressed  whole hearted support for the Global strategy proposed by UNAIDS to achieve the bold aspirational goal of ending AIDS which aligns with the global health targets in the 2030 SDGs approved by the UN.

 

CARICOM at forefront of sustainable development issues

CARICOM Secretary-General Ambassador Irwin LaRocque and his delegation in the Plenary of the United Nations Summit for the adoption of the Post-2015 Development Agenda, held at UN Headquarters, New York, 25-27 September 2015.

The Summit had as its main goal the official adoption of a new historic agenda entitled: “Transforming Our World: The 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development,” which was agreed upon by the 193 Member States of the United Nations, and includes 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

CARICOM Heads among world leaders addressing sustainable development

Prime Minister Gonsalves addressed the Summit on the opening day Friday and Prime Minister Anthony will do so on Saturday. The summit ends on Sunday.

St. Kitts-Nevis applauded for hefty donation to storm-hit Dominica

Prime Minister of St. Kitts and Nevis, Dr. the Honourable Timothy Harris, received rousing applause from the Dominican people for his government’s contribution of EC$ 1 million made to the Government and People of Dominica shortly after they were pummeled by Tropical Storm Erika that left a trail of unimaginable destruction with over twenty persons dead, persons unaccounted for, infrastructure destroyed, homes washed away and untold suffering.

Belizeans determination praised – CARICOM SG

The people of Belize have shown great determination and belief in a better future as they strive to build their nation.

The theme of this milestone Anniversary “Belize Renewed, Confident, Competitive, and Committed” reflects the passion in the heart of Belizeans for their homeland.

CARDI, CDB host black Sigatoka disease training workshop in Guyana

The Caribbean Agricultural Research and Development Institute (CARDI) in collaboration with the Caribbean Development Bank (CDB) will be hosting a workshop on the ‘Integrated Disease Management of black Sigatoka disease (BSD)’ from 28 September – 9 October, 2015, in Guyana. The workshop will take place at the National Agricultural Research and Extension Institute (NAREI), Agriculture Road, Mon Repos, and will be facilitated by plant pathologist Dr. Robert Power.

St. Kitts and Nevis envoy to CARICOM accredited

His Excellency Lionel Sydney Osborne, Ambassador of St. Kitts and Nevis to the Caribbean Community (CARICOM) on Tuesday presented his letters of credence to Ambassador Irwin LaRocque, CARICOM Secretary-General. The credentials ceremony was held in the Office of the Secretary-General, CARICOM Secretariat, Turkeyen, Greater Georgetown, Guyana.

Caribbean Investment Summit Brings Much Needed Focus to the Region

Attracting foreign direct investment (FDI) from European investors for some of the Caribbean’s most promising projects was the aim of the Caribbean Investment Summit 2015 (CIS) hosted by the Caribbean Export Development Agency (Caribbean Export) in collaboration with the Caribbean Association of Investment Promotion Agencies (CAIPA) last week.  After a full day of presentations showcasing the attractiveness of investing in the Caribbean to 100 pre-qualified interested parties, several Caribbean projects are a step closer to receiving the investment needed.

CARICOM SG meets Sint Maarten delegation on Associate Membership

The Secretary-General of the Caribbean Community (CARICOM), Ambassador Irwin LaRocque, met with a delegation from Sint Maarten – one of five Caribbean countries seeking Associated Membership in CARICOM – on Monday 14 September 2015 at CARICOM Headquarters in Georgetown, Guyana.

In addition to discussions on the terms and conditions of Associate Membership, the delegation received information on the structure and work of CARICOM and the ongoing reform of the Community and the Secretariat.
