CXC inaugurates new headquarters

The Barbados-based Caribbean Examination Council (CXC) inaugurated its new headquarters in Barbados Wednesday with the Caribbean Community (CARICOM) Chairman Freundel Stuart saying it underscored the importance of the regional integration movement to Caribbean development.

Stuart, the Prime Minister of Barbados, said that the CXC was the fourth regional institution established by regional countries soon after gaining political independence from Britain in the 1960s.

CTO gets first hand look at Montserrat’s tourism potential

New day dawns for agriculture

Policy-makers and other stakeholders in the Region’s agriculture sector have been challenged to quickly move forward with renewed resolve to ensure increased productivity and competitiveness in the agriculture sector.

Mr. Joseph Cox, new Assistant Secretary-General (ASG), Trade and Economic Integration at the Caribbean Community (CARICOM) Secretariat, threw out the challenge Thursday at the opening ceremony of a Special Meeting of the Council for Trade and Economic Development (COTED) on Agriculture.

Call for more political dialogue between CARICOM and EU

The need for greater political dialogue and co-operation between the Caribbean Community (CARICOM) and the European Union was emphasised as the new EU Ambassador to CARICOM presented his credentials yesterday.

CARICOM Secretary-General Ambassador Irwin LaRocque noted that co-operation could be further enhanced by increasing the political dialogue while EU Ambassador Mikael Barfod spoke of the need to strengthen the political co-operation. They were speaking at the presentation ceremony at the headquarters of the CARICOM Secretariat, Turkeyen, Guyana.

No Plan B for Climate Change

Climate Change and sustainable development “are vital issues for the planet” according to Belgian Ambassador Guy Sevrin.

“There is no plan B for Climate Change,” the Ambassador said in his remarks as he presented his credentials as his country’s Ambassador to the Caribbean Community (CARICOM) on Wednesday to Secretary-General Ambassador Irwin LaRocque. Speaking at the Secretariat’s Turkeyen, Guyana headquarters, he said that all countries must work together to save the planet from disaster.
