CARICOM Agriculture Ministers meet in Georgetown

Ministers of Agriculture of the Caribbean Community (CARICOM) will meet in Georgetown Thursday and Friday for a Special Meeting of the Council for Trade and Economic Development (COTED) on Agriculture. The Meeting will be held at the CARICOM Secretariat.

Among the matters the discussions will focus on are commodities which the Community had identified as priorities: roots and root tubers, especially cassava; small ruminants; herbs and spices, especially hot peppers; and fisheries.

Abolish roaming in the Caribbean’- CTU - ICT Week gets underway with meeting of Caribbean Ministers

A very important discussion taking place at the regional conference on Information and Communication Technologies (ICT) Week 2015 in the Virgin Islands (British) has to do with the concept of a single ICT space, something Jamaica’s Minister of Science, Technology, Energy and Mining Honourable Phillip Paulwell sees as a major beat as the Caribbean Telecommunications Union (CTU) seeks to abolish roaming in the Caribbean.

Hon Paulwell was at the time delivering his final speech as President of the Caribbean Telecommunications Union (CTU), having served for three periods.

 The Second India – Caribbean Community (CARICOM) Ministerial Meeting was held in New York on September 30, 2015 in the margins of the 70th session of the UNGA.  The Minister of External Affairs, Ms. Sushma Swaraj, led the Indian delegation and the  Hon. Alva Baptiste, Minister External Affairs, Trade and Civil Aviation of Saint Lucia, led the CARICOM delegation.  The meeting was attended by all CARICOM Member countries.

“Costa Rica from the Caribbean” initiative to strengthen ties

The Caribbean is a priority for my government, for this reason I launched the initiative called: Costa Rica from the Caribbean, for the development of the costarican Caribbean coast. This proposal brings together a number of projects agreed between the private productive sector, social organizations, local governments and other public institutions for the well being of all. This initiative is framed in the context of our common environment: The Caribbean sea.

CARICOM SG meets US Global AIDS Coordinator

Ambassador Irwin LaRocque, Secretary-General of theCaribbean Community (CARICOM), on Wednesday held discussions with Ambassador Deborah Birx, M.D., U.S. Global AIDS Coordinator/Special Representative for Global Health Diplomacy, U.S. Presidential Emergency Plan for HIV Relief (PEPFAR). The Secretary-General and Ambassador Birx met on the margins of the United Nations General Assembly in New York.
