Stigma and Discrimination driving the HIV epidemic in the caribbean PANCAP statement

(CARICOM Secretariat, Turkeyen, Greater Georgetown, Guyana)     The Pan Caribbean Partnership against HIV and AIDS (PANCAP) affirms that Professor Brendan Bain’s testimony in the Orozco v. A.G. Belize (2012) case is not consistent with the stated goals of PANCAP to reduce stigma and eliminate discrimination. In fact, it is in dissonance with PANCAP’s ongoing work to remove discriminatory laws and affirm human rights.

The region signs on to plan to manage the Flying Fish

BELIZE, MAY 24 - A historic Flying Fish Fisheries Policy has been endorsed by the Caribbean Regional Fisheries Mechanism’s (CRFM) Ministerial Council.
The Sub-Regional Fishery Management Plan for the Eastern Caribbean Flying Fish Fishery was approved at the council’s just concluded eighth meeting held at the Fort Young Hotel in Roseau, Dominica.  
The CRFM’s Executive Director Milton Haughton says it is the first time the Caribbean has approved a joint management plan for the shared resource.

Citizens need statistics to hold governments accountable – PM Mitchell tells High Level Forum

(CARICOM Secretariat, Turkeyen, Greater Georgetown, Guyana) Citizens of the Caribbean Community (CARICOM) need appropriate statistics to hold their “governments and all serious stakeholders, accountable”, the Prime Minister of Grenada said Monday.

Delivering the keynote address at the opening of the one-day Second High Level Advocacy Forum on Statistics in Grenada, Dr. the Right Honourable Keith Mitchell stressed that statistics was not only important for policy-makers.

Region’s youth set to become CSME-savvy

(CARICOM Secretariat, Turkeyen, Greater Georgetown, Guyana)     Over twenty-five CARICOM Youth Ambassadors (CYAs) from across the region are expected to participate in a CARICOM Single Market and Economy (CSME) Advocacy Workshop.
The activity takes place in Guyana 29-30 May, 2014 at the Grand Coastal Hotel.
