Guyana private sector helps to shape policy

(CARICOM Secretariat, Turkeyen, Greater Georgetown, Guyana)     Representatives of the business community in Guyana and officials of the Caribbean Community (CARICOM) Secretariat met on Thursday 12 June to advance discussions on a policy for regional micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs).

CARICOM Youth Ambassadors Ready for CSME Advocacy

(CARICOM Secretariat, Turkeyen, Greater Georgetown, Guyana)     Over twenty CARICOM Youth Ambassadors (CYAs) are now equipped to promote the benefits of the CARICOM Single Market and Economy (CSME) to their peers throughout the Community having completed a two-day CSME Advocacy Workshop in Guyana on May 29-30. Participants were satisfied with the knowledge and skills that they gained from the workshop and expressed their commitment to championing the CSME and its benefits to their peers upon returning to their respective Member States.

Arrival Statement Of The Caribbean Community (CARICOM) Electoral Observer Mission To The Antigua And Barbuda General Elections On 12 June 2014

(CARICOM Secretariat, Turkeyen, Greater Georgetown, Guyana)     An eleven (11) member Electoral Observer Mission from the Caribbean Community (CARICOM) is now in Antigua and Barbuda to monitor the Parliamentary Elections to be held on June 12, 2014.

The Mission headed by Mr. Orrette Fisher, Director of the Electoral Office of Jamaica, is in the country on the invitation of the Government of Antigua and Barbuda.  The other members of the Group include representatives from the following CARICOM Member States:

Barbados

CARICOM to Observe Antigua/Barbuda Elections

(CARICOM Secretariat, Turkeyen, Greater Georgetown, Guyana)     CARICOM will observe the Antigua/Barbuda general elections, to be held Thursday, June 12, 2014.
The Caribbean Community has mounted an eleven member Electoral Observer Mission, led by Jamaica’s Director of Elections, Mr. Orrette Fisher. The team, with nine officials drawn from CARICOM Member States and two from the CARICOM Secretariat, began arriving in Antigua/Barbuda on Friday 6 June.

St. Lucian youth in Babonneau to benefit from Reducing Youth on Youth Violence in CARICOM Member States pilot project

Basseterre, St. Kitts, June 05, 2014 (SKNIS): An eighteen month programme which targets the safety of youth in schools and communities is a new initiative between the Caribbean Community (CARICOM) and the Government of St. Kitts and Nevis.

At a recently held National Consultation and Launch of the CARICOM – Spain Citizen Security Project, Ionie Liburd-Willet, Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Education and Information, welcomed the initiative and spoke on the issue of youth violence.

CARIBBEAN-HEALTH- OAS, PAHO sign declaration for universal health coverage in the Caribbean

ASUNCIÓN, Paraguay, Jun 4, CMC - The Organization of American States (OAS) has signed an agreement with the Pan American Health Organization (PAHO) pledging to cooperate in providing universal health coverage in the Americas, including the Caribbean.

OAS Secretary General, José Miguel Insulza and PAHO Director Dr. Carissa Etienne signed the agreement on the sidelines of the OAS General Assembly taking place here.

CARICOM youth ambassador praises CSME advocacy workshop

GEORGETOWN, Guyana -- CARICOM Youth Ambassador Sonia Boddie has praised the Caribbean Community (CARICOM) Secretariat for its hosting of a two-day CARICOM Youth Ambassadors (CYA) CARICOM Single Market and Economy (CSME) advocacy workshop, funded by the European Union and held in Georgetown, Guyana from May 29 - 30, in which she participated.
