Prosperity and Security focus of 8th Caribbean-UK Ministerial Forum

(CARICOM Secretariat, Turkeyen, Greater Georgetown, Guyana)     Foreign Ministers of CARICOM and the Dominican Republic and Premiers from the UK overseas territories met in London on 16-17 June 2014 for their biennial high-level talks with the Foreign Office Minister for the Caribbean and other UK Government Ministers.

(CARICOM Secretariat, Turkeyen, Greater Georgetown, Guyana)     Raising the consciousness of CARICOM nationals regarding issues related to Reparations for Native Genocide Slavery is, by itself, a win.  Those sentiments were expressed by Programme Manager for Culture and Community Development Dr. Hilary Brown during her presentation on the matter at the Twenty-Second Meeting of the Regional Cultural Committee (RCC) held at the CARICOM Secretariat in Georgetown, Guyana, June 18 – 20,  2014.

Region’s Cultural Showpiece must be sustained despite economic crisis says CARICOM DSG

That was the main message from CARICOM Deputy Secretary General Ambassador Manorma Soeknandan to delegates at the opening ceremony for the Twenty-Second Meeting of the Regional Cultural Committee (RCC) at the CARICOM Secretariat in Georgetown, Guyana on Wednesday 18 June, 2014.

It is a great pleasure for me, in- my capacity as Deputy Secretary General, to extend to all of you a warm welcome to the Twenty-Second Meeting of the Regional Cultural Committee. This is the Regional Body which has been advising our Ministers of Culture for the past 27 years on shaping national and regional cultural policy and programmes as well as on addressing critical matters on the regional culture agenda.

It is a pleasure to warmly welcome all of you to the Twenty-Second Meeting of the Regional Cultural Committee (the RCC), a body that has been in existence for over 25 years, having first met on 6-7 June 1987 in Trinidad and Tobago.

A very special welcome to the representatives of Member States who are attending the RCC for the first time. It is a pleasure to welcome you into the CARICOM family of Directors of Culture and we expect that you will very quickly adapt and contribute to the collegial and productive atmosphere in which we are accustomed to working.

The Board of CRN+ Pledges its Continued Commitment to People Living with HIV

 (Caribbean Community (CARICOM) Secretariat, Turkeyen, Greater Georgetown, Guyana)     Port of Spain, Trinidad— In his acceptance speech at the General Meeting held 2-3 June, the newly elected Chairman of the Board of the Caribbean Regional Network of People Living With HIV/AIDS (CRN+), Mr. Ainsley Reid of Jamaica, recognized the strides made across the region in the fight against the spread of HIV and in the care and support of those people living with HIV.

It is indeed my pleasure and honour to address you on behalf of the Caribbean States present here today on the occasion of this Eighth UK Caribbean Forum.  Secretary of State, let me at the outset express on behalf of the Caribbean delegations our appreciation for the splendid arrangements made for us to participate in this Forum, and also our pleasure at the warm hospitality extended to us.

CARICOM Song winner Michele Henderson pays courtesy call on Secretary General LaRocque

(CARICOM Secretariat, Turkeyen, Greater Georgetown, Guyana)     Winner of the competition to select a CARICOM Song, Dominican Michele Henderson paid a courtesy call on Secretary General Ambassador Irwin LaRocque on Friday 13 June 2014.
The multi-talented entertainer is currently visiting Guyana as the headline performer for a Jazz Wine and Words Festival on Saturday June 14. Ms. Henderson was warmly welcomed to the Secretariat as she met members of the CARICOM Staff who wished her hearty congratulations.
