Energy centre to highlight discussions at Special Meetings of COTED

(CARICOM Secretariat, Turkeyen, Greater Georgetown, Guyana)     The establishment of the Caribbean Centre for Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency (CCREEE) will be the focus of discussions at two Special Meetings of the Council for Trade and Economic Development (COTED) that will be held in Georgetown, Guyana on Wednesday and Thursday.

US VP thanks CARICOM for Cuba “encouragement” – signals change to graduation position

(CARICOM Secretariat, Turkeyen, Greater Georgetown, Guyana)     United States Vice President Joseph Biden thanked the Caribbean Community (CARICOM) for its “encouragement” to his country to “make the change” with Cuba.

CARICOM has been advocating for an end to the economic and trade embargo on Cuba by the US as well as for an end to the isolation of Cuba from the hemispheric councils. President Obama recently announced steps towards the normalisation of relations between the US and Cuba.

CARICOM accredits first New Zealand Ambassador

(CARICOM Secretariat, Turkeyen, Greater Georgetown, Guyana)     The Caribbean Community (CARICOM) on Tuesday, 20 January 2016, accredited the first Plenipotentiary Representative of New Zealand to the Community.
 
Her Excellency Jan Henderson, who is also accredited to several CARICOM Member States, presented her letters of credence to CARICOM Secretary-General, Ambassador Irwin LaRocque in a simple ceremony at the Headquarters of the CARICOM Secretariat in Georgetown, Guyana.
 

CARICOM Secretariat hosts statistics workshop in Kingstown

Trinidad and Tobago signs important protocol

“Trinidad and Tobago on Friday signed the Protocol to Amend Article 83 of the Revised Treaty of Chaguaramas establishing the Caribbean Community including the CARICOM Single Market and Economy.

This important Protocol clarifies the flexibility afforded to COTED (Council for Trade and Economic Development) in its administration of the Common External Tariff, which is a fundamental element of the CARICOM Single Market.
