Preliminary Statement, (Commonwealth of Dominica General Elections)

(CARICOM Secretariat, Turkeyen, Greater Georgetown, Guyana)     A five member CARICOM Election Observation Mission (CEOM) comprising Observers drawn from Barbados, Guyana, Jamaica, Saint Lucia and Trinidad and Tobago was stationed in Dominica on the invitation of the Government of Dominica to observe that country’s General Elections held on Monday, 8 December 2014.  The objective of the Mission was to monitor the electoral process, including the opening of the poll; the voting process; the closing of the poll; and the counting of the ballots.

We, the heads of state and government of the Caribbean Community and of the Republic of Cuba, meeting in Havana, Cuba, on 8 December 2014, on the occasion of the Fifth CARICOM-Cuba Summit and in commemoration of the Forty-Second anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations among the independent States of CARICOM and Cuba and the twelfth anniversary of Cuba-CARICOM Day.

Remarks by Ambassador Irwin LaRocque, Secretary-General Caribbean Community (CARICOM)  at the opening of the Fifth CARICOM-Cuba summit

This Fifth CARICOM-Cuba Summit is testimony to the solidarity and fraternal relationship that exist among us as Caribbean people.  Forty-two years ago today, we began this journey when the four independent countries of CARICOM, acting in concert, came to Havana to establish diplomatic relations. This action broke a hemispheric diplomatic embargo. It was an expression of our solidarity with Cuba, our Caribbean sister nation, and of respect for the right to self-determination.

Grenada CSME Process Owners undergo refresher training on the Treatment of CARICOM Nationals

(CARICOM Secretariat, Turkeyen, Greater Georgetown, Guyana): Personnel from Customs, Immigration, Business and Investment agencies and the Ministries of Tourism and Culture took the opportunity to participate in a CSME refresher training session hosted by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs during the  past week.  The Worksite Meetings led off a schedule of technical meetings, designed specifically for officers from the Public Service and businesses that administer processes, advise their clients with respect to Free Movement of People, Capital, Goods, Services and the Right of Establ

Regional Company Registrars Consider Integrated Online Registry

(CARICOM Secretariat, Turkeyen, Greater Georgetown, Guyana)     A meeting to discuss the development of a complete online registry among 12 Member States participating in the CARICOM Single Market and Economy (CSME) will be held in Saint Lucia from 8 – 10 December 2014. The three-day meeting which was convened by CARICOM Secretariat, is funded by  the European Union under the 10th European Development Fund (EDF) as part of the CSME and Economic Integration Programme.

Cuba pledges to maintain support for CARICOM

(CARICOM Secretariat, Turkeyen, Greater Georgetown, Guyana)     Cuban President Army General Raul Castro Ruz told Caribbean Community (CARICOM) Leaders that despite his country’s economic difficulties, “we will honour our pledge to co-operate and share our modest achievements with our sister nations in the Caribbean.”
